Sh!tstorm - a PSA about posting online

Synopses for those that don't want to read trough the links:

There was a 6-9 month sh!tstorm yesterday, which ended badly.  And by badly, I mean someone called CPS on someone about what they posted.  The CPS caller was a regular, and she looked up the person's info on the interweb. 

Anyway, I just wanted to caution you about posting things online.  Even though I don't post as often as I'd like, I still feel that Dec 2010 is my "home".  But this is a public forum, and anyone can read it.  Some people are creepers - not just the lurkers - and your info can be traced. 

All of this makes me sad.

and this is why I am going to be limiting my already shrinking time on TB. While I don't agree with what the OP did in the first place but the CPS caller is just as much a wackadoo as her. For real how do you know what she actually did it's an internet message board where we are known to have crazies. I take most of those type of posters say with a grain of salt anyway.

eta: Im not agree with the OP but I just want to clarify I don't believe everything I read on here. I think a lot of people just like attention.

Yeah, I have emailed the bump godz too and nothing.  After the CLJ mess, I started to post less/lurk more.  Then there was some real shizzz going down on 9-12 where someone posted A PICTURE OF SOMEONE'S FRONT EFFING DOOR!  There was some other nonsense too, and it just makes this un-fun.  

And I has a sad.  

All of this BS is starting to stink the place up.  For reals.

I think it might be a good idea to do some self stalking now to see what info is out there about me.  I have a terrible, fairly ominous, feeling that I've been on the internet far too long to do anything about it.

For creepy stalkers out there, I've used this name on the interwebs for about 10 years.  When that Halo game came out people started asking me if I got my name from that.  Boo.  But I like that there are clothes/sleep sacks I can put Jack in that have my 'name' on them. lol

Wow.    I'm not sure how to feel about this.  I know creepers are out there - on TB, on FB, every where.  But that was just way too far. 

The internet is a wonderful place to get camaraderie, friendship, and information.  But it is also a dangerous place too.  I just hope people realize that there are fvcked up people IRL and hiding behind computer screens - so no matter where you are, you just have to keep a level head and be safe.  I just hope that us December Moms are the ones that keep that in mind and don't do anything f'd up.  And remember, if someone wants to find you - no matter how much or how little information you put online or if you frequent TB, FB, or any other site - they will find you.

So ladies, knowing all of this, I hope that you don't go anywhere because I like you all and what you bring to this community.  But I understand if you leave or limit your time here.

Alright, I'll step off my soap box and stop preaching like a beauty pageant contestant.  But I would like to leave you with one last thought... I wish for world peace!

This happened a couple of years ago on The Nest, but there was a girl who was supposedly going to commit suicide?  Those nesties rallied together to track her down and called the cops.  Different scenario, but yet the same??

DANG!!  This mess is crazy!  I just devoured those threads like a Harry Potter book!  

While I do NOT agree with calling CPS, it does bug me that the gal would not admit that taking her daughter out of her carseat in a moving vehicle was wrong and irresponsible.  She kept defending herself, when she should have admitted that she was unsafe.  However, CPS??  Waaayyyy over the line.

I remember a time when I enjoyed sharing more information about myself and my family...  Someone should research that sherbert lady and shove all her bad decisions in her face but then again, it appears she's fkn perfect right.

omg wow.  so...do you know what happened after they called the cops? 

They board it happened on did a gift exchange and she was on it.  They tracked down the nestie who had her to get her address and there was another nestie on that board who was in the same time (both regulars) and I think that nestie checked on her.  I can't remember the ending details as I missed it b/c I left for the evening.  But I remember a couple of days later, the Nestie who threatened suicide was acted as if nothing happened.  Very odd.

FWIW several things have got to be looked at in this case:

1st depending on the state CPS rulings are different

With that said 2nd in some states CPS is going to ask the bumpie that called "Child out of carseat while driving" chick if she can prove without a reasonable doubt that this is actually happening CPS is not going to investigate.  I hate to break it to you ladies but there is far worse things happening to children out there.

Finally 3rd policies and laws concerning CPS are ever changing for example: children will not be removed from an abusive home for up to a year unless a child suffers semi-permanent damage (mental/physically) that requires hospitalization.

I use to be a social worker, plus volunteered in a special needs intake home 

Grant you having some chick with nothing better to do call CPS on me is kinda unnerving

WOW...just W.O.W.  My SN and email have NEVER had anything to do with my real name, but I wonder how much info would be available via a Google search...add THAT to my to do list!!   But seriously, of course NO ONE condones what she did, but it boggles my mind to think that this BULLS**T happened....I do think that she went too far in continuing to admit that she did it, even just once...but seriously, we've gone to the pedi once after SO tripped & fell while holding LO and his mouth was bleeding, and told them what happened, and NOTHING came of that as far as CPS was concerned...I even posted about it, I think...

I guess the take home message for the day is WATCH WHAT YOU SAY!!!  But I do love you ladies, and wouldn't think that any of you would do that to anyone else on this board...which is why I generally stay away from the Month boards...
