My DS will be 9 months on the 24th and I heard you're supposed to give them formula (or breast milk) until they're a year. How much should he be drinking now, am I supposed to start weaning him off formula/introducing him to whole milk? When do you start giving him milk in a sippy cup? Hes been drinking water from a sippy cup for a few months now. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Re: Weaning off bottle and formula
My pediatrician told me that before 9 months, offer a bottle then food. After nine months, offer food and then a bottle. Before my nine month appt, I was getting up in the am and making a bottle, and she had been drinking over 30 ozs of formula per day. Now I give her breakfast first, something like a piece of toast and banana and a sippy cup of water or whatever. Then, when she drinks her bottle, she drinks much less.
I think this is a good method because she still is probably getting about 20 oz. a day, but I bet by a year we will be ready to ditch the bottle.
I started offering formula in a sippy cup around 10.5 months. She would still get a bottle in the am when she would wake up (around 630). As of this week she no longer gets a bottle then but a sippy cup. We offer food first at every meal and then the sippy of formula. With snack she gets a sippy of juice/water.
Around 11m 1w I started subbing 1 oz of milk for 1 oz of formula. We upped it every week and are now at 4 oz formula/4 oz wcm. She has taken her bottles cold since about 7/8 months so the temperature has never bothered her.
I would say she probably drinks 16-20 oz of formula/milk and 6-10 oz of water/juice (a 50/50 mix of the two).
this. when i give her milk in a spout sippy, she seems to take it a little fast so i might try to use a straw sippy with milk. she drinks water from a spout sippy just fine though.
