One good eater and one picky eater

So both girls had been good eaters until they got sick two weeks ago.  Now Lily has become very picky.  She doesn't finish her bottles, is refusing yogurt and some purees and just doesn't eat nearly as much as Hannah.  I am unsure of what to do.  The girls were about the same weight but now I can tell that Hannah is getting heavier while Lily is thinning out.  She doesn't seem to be hungry or cranky and does have a more sensitive gag reflex as she gags a lot more than Hannah.  She is also super slow when she eats.  I guess I'm not too worried, just wondering if others are dealing with this.

  • Yep.  After a rocky start with finger food, Harry hasn't met anything he doesn't like yet.

Alex wasn't so bad with the gagging but now he is just flat out refusing anything where he has to chew.  I'm hoping one day he'll just grow out of it.

  • It's pretty normal.  I wouldn't worry about it unless she stops gaining, starts losing weight, or your pedi is concerned.

Also, it'll probably go through stages over the next few years.  You'll have one that's picky now, they may both be picky or great eaters at the same time, and you'll likely have times when the other one is the picky one.  Babies/toddlers are weird about food, and once it seems like you've got it down, they change it up on you.

  • I have one good eater and a picky eater.  The picky one is my smaller one - she's always been at least a lb or more lighter than her sister.  I feel kind of bad because I make the same foods over and over to please her.. so her sister eats the same food all the time too (but since she's a good eater would probably be more willing to branch out and try new foods more often).  They're both gaining weight though, so I'm not too worried.  I was such a picky eater as a kid, so now I'm starting to realize how bad I made it for my parents!

  • You know i think it is the age...mine just seem to be eatng less in general and they would much rather feed themselves too.

This is similar to us. Piper loves all food now, but had a rocky start with both the bottle, purees, and finger foods. Fletch was great with the bottle and purees, but eats about 2 bites of finger food and then puts on a big dramatic, whiny display of rejecting the food until you give him purees.
