1st Trimester

1st dr. appointment today.. question

My LMP was June 2, but I don't think I ovulated until CD 27 (June 28th- had some O pain, CM was EW), so I don't think I'm as far along as they are going to say I am according to my LMP.  I'm just curious if you think I should ask for a blood test to confirm how far along I am, or just wait until the ultrasound (probably in two weeks).  I really want to know for sure how far along I am so that we can decide when we want to tell people.

What do you think?  Request a blood test to check hormone levels or just wait another two weeks?

I should add that the same thing happened with DD.  They thought I was two weeks further along then I actually was, and it wasn't until the first ultrasound that we figured it out, and I had to tell people, I'm not actually 9 weeks, I'm only 7.

  • I wouldn't bother. Its all estimated anyway. I would tell them at your appointment what you said here and they can decide what date to use. They will adjust it at your u/s anyway if it needs to be adjusted. It doesn't really matter too much. (for your own thinking you could have March 20th as your due date and be pleasantly surprised at your u/s if you are further ahead than you expected)

  • A blood test isn't going to tell how far along you are for sure either.  It'll give you an hcg number that will give them an idea but they can vary a lot.  The only way to know is a dating ultrasound.

  • I think the u/s would tell you more about how far along you are than the blood work. If your that concerned about it I would wait until the u/s. Like others said its all an estimate so I would just tell people when you are confortable with it.

  • We've only told immediate family so far- and I didn't tell them the due date- just late Feb.   I figure, due dates are wrong most of the time.   I'm pretty sure I'm not as far along as the nurse said based on my LMP.  When I told her I had long cycles she kinda blew me off over the phone (because I'd recently come off BC pills) and said use the LMP date for now and they'd adjust at my first U/S.  (Tomorrow- I can't wait!)

  • It's my understanding a blood test wouldn't give you conclusive results anyway as each pregnancy and each person can produce different results. I'd wait for the ultrasound.
