Nutrition

I'm looking at this list on here of all the foods you are supposed to eat in one day and maybe I just don't eat much but I can't even think of getting 6 servings of whole grains a day.  Maybe one or two.  I eat really healthy, so there is no junk food in there and the snacks I eat are usually fruit or cheese (trying to get my calcium intake up).  Anybody else have a problem not being able to eat all the things you are supposed to?

Re: Nutrition

  • Don't worry about it! Really people go way overboard about this. Just eat as healthy as you can possibly manage, but as you are already, don't stress about it!

ETA: especially in the first tri with nausea and m/s it is difficult to get a rounded diet. Just do your best

  • Also keep in mind that a "serving" is not always defined as the amount you might eat in one meal - sometimes a serving is more or less than you expected.

  • You'd be surprised by what actually constitutes a serving. A sandwich on whole wheat bread is at least 2 - sometimes 3 - servings of whole grains.

You get more than you think, but those are just guidelines - don't stress about it. If you eat healthy, don't feel hungry, and are getting enough water and nutrients otherwise, it's not a big deal.

  • Actually, humans don't need grain at all. (We can't even digest it naturally; it has to be ground and/or cooked.) And it's less nutrient-dense than other foods.

  • I'm in the same boat, trying to up my fruits and veggies etc.  But I find it hard to get the recommend number of servings too.  I figure two pieces of fruit a day is better than two orders of fries lol!

  • Don't worry too much about it. People can take these things to the extreme. I've been told the most important thing is to just listen to your body...and eat healthy. Some people choose to go natural, some choose to just focus on healthy items like veggies, fruits, whole grains. Maybe vitamins can help fill the gap
