BJ's brand formula

Anyone using it? Does it mirror Enfamil or Similac?

We just started ds on formula a week ago so I figure if we're going to go with a store brand we should switch now while it's still new to him. We've been using Enfamil this week and he seems to like it so I was hoping bj's brand is similar.

But I kind of feel guilty using a store brand. I've read how much they are the same and that they have to meet fda guidelines but I still feel guilty. Anyone else?

Re: BJ's brand formula

  • We switched from Enfamil. No issues with DD for the switch - she didn't seem to know it was different. The container compares it to Similac and Enfamil.

?It's the same stuff. Once I realized she was fine with it, I got over my "snobbiness" to store brands (because honestly, that's what it is).?

  • We have used Sam's Club, Target and Walmart store brands.  DD has done fine with all of them and she's definitely thriving at almost 19 lbs.  I also felt a little guilty at first but when I saw how much money we could save I got over it.

  • I noticed a difference with the powder. ?The Enfamil just seemed so much purer but we couldn't afford to spend that much on formula every week so we use Safeway brand. ?DS is fine with it. ?I do feel guilty. ?Mommy guilt is so powerful!

We use it - I think it mirrors Enfamil more closely.

I don't feel guilty at all for using a store brand.  All formula is manufactured to strict guidelines, and $20 for a 3 lb can is so much more economical.  Plus it foams less.

  • I agree that it foams less. I think the PP meant by "pure" is that the BJs brand isn't as fine as Enfamil - the Enfamil grains are very very fine.

?I don't feel guilty at all. Used to, that first day, but not anymore. She's growing and happy.?

  • We shouldn't feel guilty for using generic formula.  The companies wouldn't put it on the market if it wasn't good for the babies.  We also use Target diapers and they work perfectly fine.  I'd think I'd feel bad knowing that I was spending so much on the name brand items when the generic is just as good.  Plus, think of the lesson you'll get to teach your child one day....I keep saying I want to put the money we save on buying the generic into a savings account and really see how much it benefits by not being "snobby".

I DO NOT mean that people who use namebrands are snobby!!!  Big Smile    It's all a personal choice....
