Just read this and Catie's earlier post inspired me to bring it up here.
And... Discuss!
I don't know a lot about IVF except that DH and I likely would not have been able to afford it in addition to the costs of raising a child. I'm also interested in the claim that the policy has resulted in fewer multiple births.

Re: Discussion Topic: NYT article re: Free IVF in Israel
Well, with IVF the dr/couple can control EXACTLY how many babies there are (identical twinning/etc the exception), so it would stand to reason that the claim in accurate. As opposed to IUI/clomid/femara etc, where it is a desirable circumstance if there are 2-3 folliciles, which can result in multiples. Or, a woman can overstim, and produce lots of follies. Then, the dr cancels the cycle and tells the woman not to have sex (but since the dr can't control what they do in their bedroom, the couple may have sex anyways), resulting in a Jon and Kate plus 8 scenario.
I don't know much about their healthcare, but I do think that infertility should be included as part of health insurance, since in a way, it IS a disease. So, if they have state-covered healthcare, I think it's good that IVF be part of that package. If the US ever goes over to govt run healthcare, IF treatments should be covered, IMO.
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
I was also thinking that! I'm always upset to hear how expensive it is.
