I have read that if you exclusively BreastFeed, you don't have to pre-rinse the diapers? Do I need to wash the diapers all in one load, or can I add to a regular load of whites (w or w/o bleach?) I usually hang my clothes outside to dry no matter what, so do I need to wash and dry in the dryer for the first washes? When I pre-wash the diapers can I add them to a regular load? If so, can I add it to the whites, or add it to the colors? Thanks again!
Re: ....aaaaaand another question...and maybe a few more
That's right, when you're exclusively breastfeeding, you just toss them in the diaper bag and leave them there till time to wash. I never used bleach on the diapers. You could wash them with regular clothes, but I never did.
If you are using prefolds or flats, you will need to prep them before using them, by washing and drying them about 4 times. This removes the natural oils in the cotton so they will absorb. You can test them by dropping some water on them. If it soaks right in and doesn't pool, they're ready to use. After that, I don't really see any reason you'd need to dry them. The only thing about hanging them to dry is that they feel kind of stiff afterwards. You could scrunch them up and soften them up I think. Someone else may have a suggestion about that.
Yes, it's fine to prewash the diapers mixed with other clothes. Just make sure you're using a detergent that won't build up on the diapers.
Even if you exclusively formula-feed, you don't have to rinse diapers until they start solids.
I wash all my diapers separately from other wash. I don't use bleach unless I absolutely have to (and I haven't had to yet).
I would avoid machine drying if you can help it, just to try and prolong the life of your diapers.
You can prep diapers with other laundry. Color doesn't matter.
