What should kids be eating by the time they are a year old? Real food? Jarred food? Doesn't matter as long as they are eating?
Technically, this. But for it to still be all jarred food there'd need to be a reason beyond the fact that the parents just haven't attempted table food yet, kwim? At a year old a child without eating problems should be eating all table food.
I ask because my nephew will only eat the jarred stuff. I got him to eat a green bean last night and my SIL was shocked.
CJ is 8 months and is a little hoover. She loves to eat and I have yet to find something that she won't eat. Her current favorite is Grandmas tomato salad with balsamic vinegar, garlic and basil
It would be hard to say what's going on with your nephew because it could easily be one of two things. Either he has some sort of issue (like a texture/sensory problem) that makes it near impossible to get him to eat anything but purees. Or, your sister hasn't been "forceful" enough in taking the purees away. I hesitate to say that because you have to work with each child differently but sometimes parents stick with purees for too long for whatever reason and then the kid is so used to them that they refuse all else and hold out for the purees.

I am so jealous. Mine just does not like chunkier foods. Or really any savory foods it is so frustrating. I just try and try.
Have you tried putting food down and just ignoring the fact that it's even there? I basically put food on her tray and continue eating my own food. One day she was refusing oatmeal - I continued to eat mine and she decided she wanted it after all. It seems like they will eat what they want when they want, you just have to make it available.

Just a tip, my kid never ever ate the chunky purees but he eats finger food just fine. I'm guessing that anything off a spoon he assumes he can just swallow and the chunkier ones gag him. If he picks it up himself he somehow grasps that he has to gum it first.
Re: Just curious (food)
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
