To cut or not? (NBR-Food related)

I post a little and lurk a bit more, but I encountered a situation at lunch and wondered what others opinions would be.

At a buffet line is it ok to cut in line if the person infront you is taking awhile and you don't want that particular item.

Example: Salad, Pasta, Pizza.  Person infront of me took forever getting salad, I just wanted pizza. Is it ok to cut?

I didn't because I was too busy wondering what others would do. I normally would depending on the crowd.

  • I zoom in and out of line at buffets but we're classy and stick to Golden Corral so there's really no line.

This was a buy one get one free pizza buffet. So there is always a line. We are cheap.

Did you go to cici's? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I always cut in and out of the CiCi line because it's a lot of just a couple of things (pizza and salad) but I think in a more formal buffet that starts with salad offerings and goes in order with just a couple choices of entree, sides and dessert, I wouldn't cut.

Obviously I take my buffets seriously. Mmmm...buffets.

  • If it was a buffet that had a pizza section and a salad section and all I wanted was one of those I would feel fine jumping to the section I wanted.

Now if I was getting salad and there was a person in front of me getting salad, but was putting a little of each topping on their salad and I wanted, every 4th thing (for example), I would wait my turn behind them.

At a place like golden corral, I jump in and out as I need items, but with care not to "cut off" anyone who's able to get something too.

In a place like a wedding reception- I would just wait in the line an dnot jump throughout.

  • I think "cutting" is perfectly acceptable in this instance.  I would just say a polite "Excuse me" and step past to the item you want.  Just be aware/sure that you don't take up too much time and end up leaving THEM waiting to get the item.
