If your 8-9m old spends a full day at dc, how much breast milk are you providing? How much solid food is baby taking there as well? I was bringing 16oz for the longest time + 1 solid serving. In the past week, I increased it to two solids (1/2 jar each time.) Staff are telling me she needs more milk. I'm only pumping about 12oz a day and dipping into weekend pumping and frozen supply to make it through the week. Just trying to get an idea of what you all do.
Ever since AF reappeared, and my bad stomach flu a few weeks ago, my supply has gone down. I'm taking Mother's love supplements and not seeing any radical change. I eat lots of oatmeal/drink lots of water. Should I supplement (which I really don't want to do) or should I increase solid amount and send yogurt to dc as well. I am planning to introduce yogurt this weekend. Is there a 9m growth spurt?
Thanks!!
Re: CP: Those of you w/ 8 / 9 month olds in daycare
I exclusively BF for 7 months then started supplementing so I could stop pumping. Slowly I dropped feedings until now, I nurse first thing in the morning and before bed. So far my supply has maintained and I can't tell you how much more sane I feel not trying to pump myself to death to keep up. Just a thought. If you don't want to supplement, don't!
At this point he normally takes three bottles anywhere from 4-6 oz and two solid feedings of 4 oz each plus some puffs or crackers. I'd increase the solids for sure, LO should be getting more at this age than half a jar, IMO (assuming a jar is around 4 oz).
I think 8 or 9 months is a very common time for women to start seeing supply dip.
Thanks for the point about the jar. See, only until recently, has she really gotten better about eating purees. She hasn't shown interest at all in finger foods just yet. I will tell d/c to feed her till she is full when it comes to purees. Hopefully, that with yogurt will help. Ahh. I appreciate your response!
My LO is 11 months, but at 8-9 months, we were doing two meals of solids and 3 5oz bottles of breastmilk while LO was at daycare. Solids were probably 4-6 oz, depending on his interest. I believe we went up to 3 meals/solids a day at daycare between 9-10 months. If I recall, that period of time was a little rough. We had night weaned and my supply took a hit. I consulted with our pediatrician who told me that LO should be getting 24oz, minimum across the day total in breastmilk. I knew with confidence that this was the case (given we did at least two feedings at home and then 15oz total at daycare). So, we focused on upping the solids during this period of time, and maintaining the same level of milk consumption. We also gave LO about 8oz total of yogurt across the day (this is included in the three meals I mentioned earlier - not in addition to everything). At 9 months, our LO was off of the growth chart (below 3rd percentile). Now at close to 12 months, he's back on the growth chart at the 3rd percentile, so something went right during that period of time.
At 11 months (going on 12 very soon) I am anticipating the start up of whole milk...I can't tell you how excited I am about not pumping at work anymore. I've had a year of more limited productivity at work due to all the time I spend pumping and dealing with pumping related things. And the anxiety over not producing enough and daycare requesting more. Phew. Good luck.
Oh this makes me feel SOOOOO much better. I know she gets probably somewhere between 24-28 a day. I am going to up those solids like you and the PP said. Hoping this will be the trick! I know that many DC staff are more used to FF, so they may think it should be the same amount of ounces per day as formula. I was reading kellymom just now and that also eased my fears about her not getting enough milk during the work day.
I see her Ped in a week, so I will also check in with her.
THANKS!!
My DS eats a lot.
Up until his 9month check up, I was sending 3, eight ounce bottles, plus around 14oz of baby food (7 for breakfast and 7 for lunch).
After his check up, the doctor said to start transitioning towards more solids and less formula.
Now he gets two 6oz bottles; around 10oz of baby food for breakfast and lunch, and a snack of fingerfoods.
