If you cut out dyes and artifical coloring

Did you notice a change in YOUR behavior?  I am wondering if this could not only help the kids but help me.  And BTW, to gross you all out we are all eating sour patch kids right now.  I am considering getting the kids in the car and driving to Wegmans (20-25 minute drive), stopping on the way to eat or eating there, buying new food and tossing the crap in my house.  Or should drive an hour to Whole Foods which is very close to Trader Joes?

Re: If you cut out dyes and artifical coloring

  • I miss Wegmans.
  • With all the new all-natural versions of popular foods out there these days, the drive is not 100% necessary.  Just check the labels.

  • I cut those things out but I also cut out a host of other things (grains, legumes, vegetable oils) at the same time so I can't contribute any changes just to dyes/colorings specifically. My health dramatically improved when I switched to paleo. I think much of it was the foods I was eating but some of the improvements were also from the weight I lost. I think my mood improvements were directly related to more stabalized blood sugar. My health improvements were no more heartburn, constipation or diarrhea (I used to alternate between the two), bloating, gas, no skin tags, no breakouts, no restless legs...I'm sure there are a host of other things.

Huge ditto.  Cutting out artificial dyes and flavorings for us has not been some huge and expensive undertaking.  I'm sure whole foods is a great store, but we have nothing like that around here and we manage just fine.

    This.

Just be sure to read the labels. I had a friend call me so excited that she found "Natural" Fruit Loops. The front of the box said natural- but it most certainly had chemical dyes right in the ingredients. Not sure how they get away with it.

lol... "natural" fruit loops.  yeah... read labels.  buy fresh as much as possible.  many stores do have their organic or natural food aisles now... but you still have to watch the labels.  I do try to avoid the center of the grocery as much as possible... but the kids do like crackers and cereal ... for a while they were on a granola kick... but that's died.  the hubs has been going to the grocery while I'm at work and picking up crap like cocoa pebbles or whatever ...  thanks, hubs.
