Induction...WWYD

I havent posted much, but I lurk around and read a lot. I am usually super busy with work...but I have a WWYD question...

I was due July 9. My doctor scheduled induction for 7/15/11, but now wants to move it to tomorrow/wednesday depending on my appointment tomorrow...

Last appointment I was 1 cm and very soft and short. I am so torn about what to do. I wanted to avoid induction...but at the same time I'm so uncomfortable...

So if you were me, what would you do?

  • If I were you I would RUN to the induction.

    Hope everything goes good.

  • If you really don't want an induction I'd see if your doctor will let you go to 41 weeks. I know all doctors are different but that's my doc's limit.

  • Was there a particular reason that your doc wanted to move up the induction? High blood pressure, etc?

If it were me, my decision would be based on why. If there is a medical reason, I would absolutely take my doctor's recommendation. If there is no reason (I'm just uncomfortable, it works better for the doc's schedule, etc), then I would ask to wait until at least 41 weeks if not longer. Of course, then you might want some NST testing.

That said, the fact that you'd had some action on your own means that you are more likely to have a successful induction, so I wouldn't worry too much either way.

    Good luck!

  • I don't want to be induced, so, I would do all I could to get it going at home.  walk lots, sex, nipple stim.  I have heard both good and bad about castor oil.  I would wait.  it is totally your choice.  don't let them rush you.
  • Is there a problem that is pushing him/you to move up the induction date? If you already have one scheduled I am not sure what difference a couple of days makes. Personally I would avoid induction unless medically neccessary. But really any progress your baby make on its own will make for a smoother induction. Good luck either way.

I didn't want to be induced either but now I am miserable enough to try it lol.  Are you still comfortable with your original induction date?  If so maybe you can just wait till then anyway.  I would just tell your doctor how you are feeling and see what they say.

  • Ditto PP - I'd want to know WHY they are suggesting to move up the date. If you aren't comfortable there's no reason to rush into any medical procedure.

My advice, talk with your Dr about why they want to induce earlier than planned, as well as the pros/cons of inducing now vs. waiting then you can make an educated decision from there.

  • To me, it would depend on the reason for the schedule change.  If there's no medical reason, I would wait.  My due date was 7/6 and I'm not getting induced until Thursday.
