I know some conservative books say you should never swim in ponds when pregnant. I certainly think that's crazy.
However, I have also read that you should not swim in a pond once you are starting to dilate, and that makes a little more sense to me.
I am 39 weeks tomorrow, and I have not had any internal checks. I imagine if anything, I am 1 to 2 cm dilated at most. But maybe not at all.
Would you go swimming in a pond? Anyone really think that this is a risk? It's really so hot out, and I have been sitting in this house all week. A nice swim sounds nice.
Re: Swim in pond when maybe dilated?
I have my first internal this afternoon and I was going to ask my doctor if I lost my mucus plug (which I think I have) and am dilated if I should stop swimming. However, this would be at a swimming pool. I am curious to see what she says.
I have no idea about swimming in a pond. Just because I am a scaredy cat though, I probably wouldn't. However, I am also one of the ladies who quit eating lunch meat and really cut back on my caffiene intake.
I'm a lunchmeat free, very limited caffeine gal too!
But I also don't think that I am overly cautious. Just why take chances when you don't have to?
I have not lost my mucus plug, and I know that my water hasn't broken. I imagine Mason is safe up there in his little bubble for now. I think that I will take my chances with a quick dip in the pond if I can convince my fiance to get off the couch and join me.
As a side note, this "pond" is actually man-made and chemically treated like a pool. It looks like a pond in every way, has a sandy bottom, isn't clear water, but it does have some level of chlorine to it. And very limited wildlife in it. You wouldn't find fish in this pond.

I would probably still swim in a pond like that! I was picturing a lake with a ton of plants in it (I hate lakes, can you tell?). I wouldn't think it was a big deal if your water isn't broken.
I asked my doctor and she said I can keep swimming up until my water breaks. I am sure you will be fine in the pond, especially since you said it has chlorine and no fish, go cool off!
Truly, it's proably safe. But at the same time, why risk it? I wouldn't. Just get a little lounge chair, put your legs and feet in and enjoy.
