Hello, creeping over from Oct 2011. I am feeling super crafty, and wondering what DIY crafts you have done for your nurseries. I am looking for inspiration, and have been hounding blogs like crazy! Anyone wanna share links or pictures? Thanks!!

I refinished a dresser I got off Craigslist. I also had my husband make knock off pottery barn book shelves. After he's born, I'm going to make a shadow box with his homecoming outfit.
Check out my block link if you want to see pictures!
I made this moravian star mobile (hand-folded the stars myself):
Artwork for over the dresser/changing pad (I bought the wooden animals from Hobby Lobby already painted, glued them to some colored paper and framed them):
Artwork for over the crib (I painted 20"X24" canvases white with green border on the edge, and stuck vinyl letters/animals on them):
Ah love these ideas! I have never been SUPER crafty. But I think I am going to attempt to make hanging letters of little guy's name for over his bed. I am super excited to get started. Just gotta wait on my bedding so I can make the colors match.

I'm currently up to my eyeballs in little fabric circles to make the fabric poms. I'd seen them done with the Chinese lanterns (from the link posted above) & also with styrofoam balls, but I'm using some really inexpensive clear plastic Christmas ornaments. It's working great & has a built-in spot for hanging!
I also did a version of the fabric in the embroidery hoops. Except I treated the fabric using this technique
& used three hoops to make her monogram. I didn't want it to be obvious that they were embroidery hoops, so I painted them & stuck bows over the hardware.
Another project I did was a message board/hair clip organizer to go on the wall. Took an old picture frame (antique mall, $8) & repainted it. Then I cut a piece of cardboard (from a box) to fit, wrapped batting around it, wrapped fabric around that, added some ribbons & put the whole thing together. Easy & inexpensive! The end result looked similar to this (only with fabrics/ribbons to match my LO's nursery):
ETA: I just discovered that you're having a little boy. The last project can be done to use as a message/memory board for pictures & other items, not just hair clips! I even thought about painting some clothespins to help attach things to the ribbons.

Where did you get the vinyl letters and animals from...love the artwork!
I bought them on Ebay, but Amazon also sells it: https://www.amazon.com/RoomMates-RMK1440SCS-Animal-Alphabet-Decals/dp/B003NG2PIS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1310335926&sr=8-9

BLOG :] & Shaping Up
Apparently some others and I have some DIY projects in common! These are the DIY projects I've done thus far.
Our nursery is super tiny, so these book ledges are pretty perfect to conserve space:
I did this fabric embroidery hoop art for over the crib:
Here's a photo that gets both DIY projects in it:
