Packing my bag for Brigham & Women's

As I am finally getting ready to pack my bag for the hospital, I have been reading through tons of what to bring/not to bring to the hospital lists. Some of the items are common sense while others would be good, unless the hospital already has them of course. For those of you that have recently delivered or deliverd not that long ago at Brigham's what are some things they have in the hospital for you that you should def. leave at home? All suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Packing my bag for Brigham & Women's

  • Sorry I can't suggest anything that I would've left home but I DEF. would have brought my own towel!! :)

  • Bring your own pillow. That's about all I can remember :)

  • I would say the only things you absolutely need are toiletries and a going-home outfit for the baby. However, I arrived at 7cm, got an epidural right away and slept for 5 hrs until it was time to push. You may want to pack a few things to make yourself more comfortable in L&D in case you're in labor longer.

Towels can get bloody, so if you bring your own don't bring your nicest ones. I didn't think the pillows were that bad, but then again I used about five of them.

Everything happened so quickly, and I was still in a daze when it was time to go home. Pack light, you can always have family or a friend fetch something later on.

  • I noticed a few of you mentioned towels from home. What did you use/need them for? Does the hospital not supply you?

  • sorry - i wished i'd had my towel from home just to shower. they def. provide towels but they are not very nice (rough and I found they smelled like bleach). That cramped little shower felt soooo goooood after 20 hours of labor and would've been nice to wrap up in my own fluffy, yummy smelling towel :) Also, i saw firsthand what they did with some of those towels (my nurse basically threw a couple on the floor to 'clean' up some blood) - that put me off right away. ok so in retrospect, maybe it's a little high maintainence hehe ;) best of luck to you!!!

Toiletries. They did provide a toothbrush and toothpaste which was nice since I went early and didnt have a bag packed. I did bring a hair dryer and used it for when I left the hospital. I really didn't feel like I needed too much though. The two days passed by so quickly!

Just thought of this...the onesies they have for the baby were HUGE, especially on my 5lb baby, I might pack a couple of newborn onesies just in case your LO is on the smaller size!

  • From my experience: elastics, hairbands or clips and lip balm for L&D. It is hot, and my lips got dry. I also recommend your own toiletries. Nothing is better than that first shower. You will get different viewpoints on this, but i brought my own pjs (nursing friendly) and maternity underwear. They will give you disposable underwear and huge pads, which i usually wear for 24 hours...my own make me feel like a human being again. And socks or slippers. After the first day, it wasnt as bloody as i had expected. If you are BFing, i recommend a boppy pillow. You can use their pillows, but the boppy really helped me. Bring your fave maternity outfit for coming home too.
