Hi Ladies
Im currently undergoing IUGR evaluation for baby A (sam). MFM said he needs to gain at least 200gms from his u/s 2 weeks ago. If he doesnt, i will either be put on hospital bedrest, or get delivered (it all depends on how his cord flow is doing as well).
He has passed all his NST/BPPs with flying colors and he is still very active so im hoping for the best. But ill be 34.5 on Monday.
Any experiences of delivery around that time to ease my nerves would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Anyone who delivered around 35 weeks
Sorry I don't have any direct experience to share, but I did work in a Level III (some states call it a level IV) NICU for 7+ years and typically the 35 weekers were feeder growers (these were the chunky babies compared to the 23/24 weekers that were there too), that sometimes had difficulty with the whole suck/swallow/breathe coordination and maintaning their temperatures. Rarely they ever needed respiratory intervention (if so it was maybe just CPAP or high flow nasal cannula temporarily).
I hope everything goes ok with your LO's evaluation and you are able to keep 'em cooking for as long as possible
Also, just wanted to add that my OB had mentioned at my appt yesterday that I would be lucky if I made it to 35 weeks (which was a little shocking to hear as my goal has always been 37+ weeks) due to cervical issues, so I may be right in your shoes in just a few weeks.
That sounds like my story! Except my Sam was my non-IUGR baby. My OB was worried about DS1 not gaining enough too. They did a cord evaluation, and while that was fine, the MFM thought it was best to deliver at 34.5 weeks.
It turned out to be somewhat of a false alarm, but I'm glad they were cautious. DS1 was 4lbs 9oz and DS2 was 4lbs 13oz. They were there for 10 and 13 days just as growers/feeders.
You've done great! Good luck with the home stretch!
I was on medication for preterm labor and contractions but there was no stopping the babies at 35w3d when they decided to make their entrance into the world. I delivered via c-section bc both babies were breech. Lila was born weighing 5lbs 4oz and Jack was born 20 seconds later weighing 4lbs 12oz. Lila was taken immediately to the NICU because she seemed to be having some slight respiratory issues (she was making some wheezing sounds when she breathed, they called it "singing") and then Jack went about an hour later for the same thing. Jack ended up needing an oxygen hood for about 2 hours and then went to room air while Lila was stricltly on room air. They both had an insulin IV for the first 24 hours. After that they were given bottles but couldn't figure out the suck/swallow/breathe deal so they were given feeding tubes. They still got to spend as much time in our room as we wanted, we just had a special NICU nurse dedicated to us that would check on them every hour and come for all feedings. They both ended up staying for a total of 10 days. It was really hard at the time...To leave them in the hospital after I was discharged...But now it is a distant memory. Good luck to you!
ETA: I forgot to add that they both are in 60% and above for height and weight and both make all of their milestones. They are very happy, healthy babies. So no worries for 34 and 35 weekers!
I would prepare yourself to deliver if Sam hasn't gained weight. I was admitted to the hospital at 34 weeks 6 days for increasing BPs, but the week before we had a growth US that showed Baby B (Amelia) only measuring 4lbs and Baby A measuring 5lbs. Amelia passed all of the NST's with flying colors and her cord flow looked great. They were delivered at 35 weeks 2 days due to increasing BP's and the size discrepancy (they did not do a repeat growth scan before delivering). Amelia was born weighing only 3lbs. 15oz. - so she really didn't grow in those 10 days. Ellie was 5lbs. 7oz.
So Ellie was great - and went to the nursery. But Amelia had breathing issues and had to go to the NICU. She was on CPAP for 3 days and then a nasal cannula for 6 days, and she had to work on eating too. She was in the NICU for 11 days. She is doing great now. So although it was really hard - she's ok. Good luck!
delivered scheduled c/s by at 35w2d due to IUGR and both my DD and DS were perfectly healthy, in my arms BFing within an hour of delivery, and no NICU time. We all went home together after 4 nights. F WIW, my DD was just shy of 1lb less than my DS. DD - 5lb 2oz, DS, 5lb120z.
Good luck and ask your Dr. for the lung deveolping steriod shots ASAP if you haven't already got them
