Adoption

adopting thru foster care - home study question?

We've been licensed for about a month now. We're looking to adopt through the foster care system but without doing foster care first....straight adoption of a child (or children) who has had TPR already. I've been reviewing the various photo listing sites, and I found a sibling group that looks promising. However, they don't fit into the age and number of siblings that we have been approved for. We are approved for two children, but our licensing worker told us during the home study process that we could be approved for up to 5 if we wanted. My husband nearly had a mini-stroke when she said "five" so we decided to only request approval for two. I know that this is probably a question for our licensing worker, but I thought I would see if any of you have experience with this situation. How difficult is it to have your license modified? Would we have to do a completely new home study? Would we have to wait until our renewal period?

Re: adopting thru foster care - home study question?

  • Our license was not hard to change, neither was the home study. All they do is ammend/update your homestudy for the number you need or want. We did it quite a few times during our fostering. we started with 1, then went to 2, then 3 (in fact, when they called about the 3, I reminded them were only licensed for 2 and the reply "oh that can be changed with a click of a mouse").

    this exactly.

they want these children to be adopted - if you have the resources and space, a number on a paper will mean nothing.
