Do you carry both your twins at the same time?

As in one baby in each arm?  I can't lift them right now being post-surgery still but since my husband is doing all the work I am noticing that he carries both of them everywhere at the same time.  I just can't do that.  Well, I can carry them both but the hard part is when you get to where you needed to go, like the booster seats or the cribs, logistically speaking, how do you put one down when you only have one hand...you would have to grab them by the arm like a monkey.  I just don't get how he does that.  They are 23 pounds each now!  Am I the only one that can't carry both my babies at the same time???

Re: Do you carry both your twins at the same time?

  • Yup I do but my DH does not.

I pick up DD first and swing her to my right hip.  She holds on to your arm/shoulder so that makes it easier.  Then we bend down and pick up DS.  I can do it from the floor or out of their cribs.

DH is just too scared to do it.  I keep telling him there will be a time when he's going to have to carry both.  If they were still going to daycare he's have done it long ago.

  • I do occassionally, but now that I have a busted knee, I won't.

The best way to get them up, is from my bed.  Usually I carry them both when I'm going to the glider for bedtime.  Then I'm stuck w/ both boys sleeping on me until DH gets home bc there is now way I'm getting up and keeping both babies sleeping.  LOL

Sometimes I can manage to squeeze one in to a highchair while carrying both, but if he's hesitating, can make the job interesting.

  • Yes, all the time.  Now that they are getting bigger it is starting to get a little harder, but I usually pick up the bigger guy first and then the smaller one.  I usually put them down on the floor at the same time, if I need to put them into something else then pick them up individually.  The only thing I can put them in while holding onto both is their high chairs (if the trays are off), otherwise, I have to set them down first.

  • I can but I only do it if I absolutely have to.  Most of the time I will carry one at a time.
  • All the time.  DH does too.  They are about 21/22 lbs each.
Here comes Baby #3! BabyFruit Ticker Lilypie Third Birthday tickers
  • Yep.  I started carrying both at one time (without help getting them up and down) once they could support their own heads really well, and I can still do it for a few minutes here and there if I need to, even at almost 30 pounds each.  It came in handy at DH's homecoming ceremony, because they both wanted to be up high enough to see everything when the guys came in the building.
  • I can carry them, but the hardest part is picking them both up.  I have to get the second one into a sitting position so I can grab her.  They are both 22lbs (I cannot believe how big they are!!) and get heavy!
  • I still can't -DS is just too wiggly and grabby, and often lately I can't even hold him while I eat! DD is easier.

  • I do but only to save myself from having to take one downstairs and then go back upstairs to get the other one. If they were heavier I probably wouldn't be able to - it's awkward trying to do it and they aren't even that big.

I can, but I don't like doing it.  It's not the picking up and the carrying that I don't like.  It's the putting down that's the hard part, although now that they are sitting and starting to stand, it's easier.

Leslie, your sig pic is so sweet.  It made me all teary!  Welcome home to your DH!

  • I do and my kids are almost 2. I have to pick up DD first because she is the bigger of the 2, DS is alot easier to pick up one armed, plus he's a little monkey so he helps climb up.

  • All the time, mine are about 18 pounds each now.  DH does too though I think my arms are more buff than his now from it, not too sexy.  I pick one up and swing to a hip before picking up the other or pick one up from behind and then the other so they are both facing front.  I find one per hip easiest.  It is easier now that they hold on tight when lifted and reach up to be picked up too.  Once they had head control though picking both up became routine for us :)

  • Nope, never. I did it once and DD almost fell out my arms, and it scared me enough not to do it again. DH never does it either. I guess we've never found it necessary.
  • I do it, and have done it, all along. Even now, at 37 weeks pregnant. I guess it's never seemed like a big deal.

When they were babies I had the hardest time picking them both up if I already had one in my arms.  But now I do it whenever.  I carry them up and down the stairs and if they are both crying I pick them both up.

And yes, DH will carry them at the same time also.

    This exactly.

I can put them both down on the floor at the same time and can put them in their cribs. I can't get them into their highchairs holding both because they like to swing their legs around everywhere when I try to put them in their chairs. DH will only carry both at the same time when I pass one to him while hes holding the other and he wont attempt to put them both down.

  • I don't carry them at the same time typically.  I can do it, but it's too hard and like you said, when you get to your destination, it's physically hard to set them down.

  • I do. I pick up the chunk-a monk first and then grab DD...opposite when I put them down.  In and out of cribs is more difficult IMO but doable.

  • I do ... sometimes.  Mainly because they fight over me.  It's getting harder now that they are both over 30lbs.  When they were small I did it all the time.

  • I do quite a bit

  • yup, I do. And when I put them down, I just crouch down and lay them both on their bellies now. When they were smaller they were easier to turn with one hand.
