Mad at fill-in-OB....Grrrrrr..

So, at my last week's appointment, my usual OB told me he would be out of town all this week on vacation...Totally cool..They need vacations too...He told me that he would have the other OB to check me today for any dilation and strip my membranes if i showed any progress...So, yay! I was getting excited, and I've been doing lots of walking and everything else I could think of, in the hopes of havin some progress...I get to the doc today, and the OB tells me he will not check me because it really doesn't mean anything, (which I know is true, but still) and he will not strip my membranes because in his opinion that causes problems...Even after I told him that my other OB said he would, he told me no...I know numbers really don't mean anything, but I was still dissapointed...And I didn't think he could refuse something jsut because it was his personal preference...And my due date is Saturday, so its not like im 35 weeks or anything...Just a little mad...

  • Stripping membranes is no fun!! I had mine done and it was so painful!! I do think the doc should have at least done an internal to check progress. I know I have been feeling more lower vag pain and I suspect LO has dropped more, so I know what it is like to be curious about progress. I hope your LO comes soon! Good luck.

  • When I met my fill in OB she didn't check me either. Just make another appointment with your actual OB for when they get back into town. :) Also, if I were an OB and you weren't my patient, I wouldn't do anything as drastic as stripping your membranes either it's not his place.

but I gotta say the idea of stripping membranes scares the heck outta me. I have just never heard of it going successfully. it hurts, causes discharge and discomfort for a few days and really doesn't do anything. it's a first step to induction and frankly, the word induction gives me the chills. maybe it was a blessing?
