So I was feeling "off" all day yesterday, achey, sore throat and got chills right before I went to bed. Woke up feeling better but then started feeling yucky again. Went to doc and the nurse practitioner said it looked pretty "nasty" and they did a strep test. Weirdly enough, it's not strep.
So she gave me a broad spectrum anti-biotic to clear it up and said to go to the ENT if it is not better. So I ask around and find out that the anti-biotic she prescibed is a L3 and a "big gun"... not proven safe but not proven unsafe because lack of studies. The LC at my pedi office said she cannot say it's okay to take. Cue panic and the thought of pumping and dumping for 10 days when we have a trip coming up where I need all the milk I can get.
I called my doc back they said I can lower it to amoxicillin to see if that does it first. I am relieved but of course now worried that it won't do it and I'll get sicker.
Of course there's the fact that I worry LO has already caught it since I was feeling for his tooth yesterday, and the question remains that i am not even sure how *I* managed to get it.
Re: sore throat (me) and antibiotics. Ugh.
They pump women full of all sorts of antibiotics when they have a c-section and it's OK to nurse afterwards. I wouldn't worry, especially now that Alex is nursing less because he's older and he has his own system to be able to filter the meds. You can always page AMy_G to look it up for you on the breastfeeding board. They gave me a z-pack (azithromycin) last week when I had the same thing.

Really? I just keep reading doom and gloom when this med is brought up. The packet that comes with it says do not breastfeed when on it. Maybe I am just paranoid.
I think I will switch to amoxicillin and see where it is in a few days, go to the ENT and see what they say if anything different.
Just seems like they pulled out a big gun awfully quickly.

I love the z-pack, was on it a lot when I kept getting bronchitis in HS. I would feel okay if they gave me that... just this one made me nervous since it's not prescribed often, never given to kids, and the jury is out on it's safety.
