i'm 4 months pg now and found that i've gained weight since my last pg, so many of my pants no longer fit (wider hips & thighs). i've been buying a few more pieces but what i really need are slacks and maybe jeans. should i purchase a larger size since i'm sure to get bigger at 7 & 8 months? i hope to be working during this time, so i need a few pairs of slacks. i was a M during my last pg four yrs ago. right now, i'm fitting a large (around a size 12) in slacks. should i get XL? OR should i just make sure that the panel has extra room for a growing belly instead of a growing butt, hips, & thighs too?
Re: buying maternity clothes for twin pg
I second dresses and also skirts and leggings. But, seems like you'll be bigger in a different season, so I'd buy a few things at a time, not a whole wardrobe right now. I personally bought some maternity shirts without the empire waist so that they can be worn post partum too without me looking like I'm still sporting maternity shirts since I'm expecting a slower rebound from my twin belly.
Oh, and in addition to dresses, I've done tunic style maternity shirts (like the ones designed to be worn with leggings) or something with a cut/fit a little longer than a normal maternity top. These will grow better with belly without me hanging out all over the place at the end!
Call me cheap, but so long as I have just a few things I can rotate I'm happy since I don't want to spend a ton of $$ on stuff I'll really only be wearing for a few weeks/months.

Do you have Macy's where you are? They sell Motherhood Maternity there now and I will shop it during their one day sales or when I have a coupon there.
Not sure if it was bc it was my only pregnancy, but my belly was never extremely large (not until last couple of wks). I bought a couple of items in a bigger size than normal, and it always fit large on me.
I had a couple of pants from Gap that actually buckled in front (with elastic in back) and those were my fav... as I grew, I'd let out some of the elastic on side. And worst come scenario, I'd leave the buckle lose in front.
I also loved maxi dresses, and sundresses... however my legs were so swollen the last few months, I wouldn't wear anything that showed my legs. : (
