Cloth Diapering

CDs on vacation?

We will be taking a trip to see my ILs in December and would like to keep using our cloth while we are there since it will be for a significant amount of time. I am wondering how you handle washing if you are in a location with a washer but no toilet sprayer? I hope to still be BF at that point, but I cannot guarantee it. Do you do the old fashioned dunk in the toilet, or scrape them off with something? My ILs are very pro-cloth so they will be very supportive, but I still don't want this to be a gross experience for anyone involved. Any advice would be very helpful.

  • Both BF and FF poo are water soluble and can go straight in the washer.  I cant remember what your ticker said, but s/he wont be 6 months yet so no solids, and that's when you have to start worrying about spraying/dunking/etc.  Have fun!

  • I would probably use Bummis liners in that situation b/c I know it would weird my ILs out to have significant amounts of poop go in their washer (even thoguh it's no big deal to me to do that in my own washer).

I don't use a sprayer though & never have.  EBF poop doesn't need to be removed.  Once DD started with solids her poop is mostly ploppable.  When it's not I scrape.

  • She will only be 2 months at that point so def no solids. Thanks so much, we are really excited about this trip and want to make it as easy as possible.

  • We have always dunked/swished. When we were on vacation with a W/D, we only had one diaper or 2 that needed dunking. It was NBD, esp since we had our own bathroom.

  • Liners are useless with EBF poo. The diaper gets just as poopy. Not sure about FF (no solids) poo.

I did a one-week trip to my parents a few months ago. I do not have a toilet sprayer at home, and I never dunk and swish (that just seems really gross to me). At my parents', I just scraped poo off with toilet paper and had no issues.

We're leaving on vacation this week and I'm debating whether I want to do that again or throw in the little spatula that we use on diapers that need it at home. Either way, easy peasy.
