6-9 MO'er needs your 9-12 MO experience - Carseats

My Lo is now 23 lbs and 29 inches tall and needs to move out of his Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat.  I see that the convertibles is the way to go so he can still be backward now but then go front facing at one year.  I guess Britax and Evenflo are rated the best but seen expensive for needing 2 of them.  Any suggestions on specific models that you all love after switching? Or ones that you hate?

I just need something easy to get him in and out of, safe, easy to install and not HUGE. TIA ladies!

  • I have seen a lot of people on here get the cosco carseats at target and walmart and people have said they have good ratings. i love love love the evenflo triumph so easy to get in and out of. we used a bru coupon and it made it a bit cheaper.

  • We will be buying the Britax Roundabout. Do you really need 2?
  • We just bit the bullet and bought two Britax blvds. I found them cheapest on Amazon, but it was still pricy. Just FYI, the current recommendation is to be rear facing until 2 years old.

Not sure.  Do I? Right now we have the Chicco with 2 bases, one for each car that we have.  I just figured if we get them installed safely, we wouldn't really want to be moving it back and forth every few days.  Maybe I'm wrong.

Moving them back in forth may be a pain, depending on how much you switch vehicles, but it will definitely save you money. We had 2 bases and ended up completely ditching them. I found that the carseat was more stable without the base, but more of a pain. It's really your personal preference.
  • We have an Evenflo and love it.  DS is comfortable and it's easy to get him in and out.  We had to buy 2 because DH drops off at daycare and I pick up.  We have a combi Coccoro in DH's car because we needed something more compact.  It's also a great seat, though the ht/wt limits are much lower so if you think you're going to have a larger child they may outgrow it before they're ready for a booster.

You don't need to buy two expensive seats if LO rides primarily in one car.  For the 2nd you can always get a less expensive one like the Cosco Scerena.  It gets great safety rating, just not as plush and fancy as some of the other brands.

  • We have Britax Roundabout. I love it, Eli loves it.

We got it for like $159 online. they have sales all the time so you can try to find a good deal since they are kinda pricey.

  • We have an Evenflo Momentum that I got from BRU for $110 with a coupon and a sale. We will get two carseats eventually, for now LO still fits in the infant seat and that's in DH's car.

I know lots of parents who use the Cosco Scenera that is only $50 as a backup seat, it's rated just the same but decidedly less cushy. My husband had to switch the carseat between the cars for a few days and the special latch hookup they have on the Evenflo was phenomenally easy, so I wouldn't let that deter you. We could definitely get away with just the one seat if money were that tight.

Evenflo seems to be the more cost effective one that is most used here.  I think we have a winner!  I will try one for now and re-up if needed.  Thanks ladies!!

Actually the highest rated on consumer reports for crash tests are these...

     cosco:

     scenara

    evenflo triumph advance

I was going to spend the extra $$ on a Britax because they seem to be all the rage on the bump but then I bought a subscription to Consumer Reports and found out that those rate better. They aren't as cushiony as the Britax but my son loves the Cosco compared to his infant Graco Snugride.

  • All convertible seats are huge.  You will go nuts trying to find a small convertible seat....trust me.
