my friend has mono....

I haven't seen my guy friend in quite awhile, but he found out earlier this week he has mono. We had planned a gathering of friends tomorrow eve over at our friend's house...and now are switching it to our house.

I'm not sure if I should even go or allow him to come over - since he just found out he has mono & my immune system isn't up to par while being pregnant. Common sense for him should be to stay home and recover, but he's a social type of guy and wouldn't necessarily follow that "rule". WWYD?

Re: my friend has mono....

  • If he is insisting on going, I wouldn't go. Mono is a pretty contagious illness and I personally wouldn't take that chance.

  • unless you share a drink or kiss him..you're not going to get it...
  • You have to kiss him or share a drink with him to get it. You cant catch it just by breathing around him!
  • My DH had mono during my 1st tri.  Doctor wasn't concerned, but we couldn't kiss/share saliva/drinks/etc. for awhile - That is the only way it spreads.

I agree had mono as a teen and that is what I was told.

    P.S.

I loved having mono I slept for a week straight and got to be out of school.

  • The only way you could get it is swapping spit or blood. Chances are you've already been exposed anyway, it can lay dormant in someones blood stream for years before they get it. I got it at 18 after sharing a drink with a girl who had it the year before. She got it sharing a soda with one of the other girls we worked with.
  • Good points on all of the above! He is going to come over....we won't be swapping saliva or anything, so I should be okay :P I feel bad for the guy - he's been couped up at home the past week and I think just wanted to be able to be a little social! He is making some alcohol-free punch for him & I to drink (since he obviously can't drink either). I'll mind mine/his germs...it should all be okay! :)
