Which feeding to drop last-AM or PM?

I'm in the process of trying to wean DD So far I've dropped the 2 nap feedings, so I've still got a morning and a bedtime feeding. I had always assumed that I would keep the before bed feeding and let it be the last to go, but now I'm thinking morning.

DD seems to wake up starving. As in, she won't let me change her diaper or anything without screaming. She wants to eat. So I've been nursing her first thing and then continuing on with our morning routine. I feed her breakfast bout 30-45 minutes after that.

What feeding did you keep until the very end? And do you have any suggestions for how to drop that morning feeding (for when I do actually do it)?

  • With my first, the nightime was the last to go and then with my second I weaned the morning last. It was about the same for me(as far as being easy). I never nursed my first to sleep so that wasn't an issue for us. We just distracted him with bath and stories and it went really well. When I was weaning the morning ones, we would just go straight to breakfast. Obviously, 6:30 is an early breakfast but once they were distracted with real food, it wasn't a big deal. Good Luck!

  • With Megan I dropped the evening feeding last.  I just switched the morning feeding to be a cup of milk.  I think DH went and got her and brought milk in her straw cup to the crib when he picked her up.

With Ryan I'm doing the oppositte.  DH started putting Ryan to bed around 16 months so he dropped the evening feeding then.  For Ryan it was easier to drop the nighttime feeding.  He prefers the morning feeding and the I-just-got-back-from-work feeding.  I think its more about re-connection for him.  I'm working on dropping the morning feeding by just having DH get him in the morning.  I think the after work feeding will be the last one to go with Ryan.

    Good luck!

  • The last to go for us was morning.  We did ONLY morning for a kinda long while because we had biting issues any other time.  When we dropped the morning feeding, we kept the routine still for a long time. We'd still get her up and bring her right in to the glider, hold her, and give her a bottle, then a sippy cup.  It's really only been recently that we've backed off that routine.

  • I'm weaning too and am down to the morning/night feeding. I am weaning the bedtime one last but Baby N doesn't wake up starving. She's fine waiting for breakfast. In your case, I'd probably leave the morning one for the last one to drop.
