Pregnant after a Loss

In home daycares

What is the typical rate for an in-home daycare?  Meaning, I would drop the baby off at their house.  Not that they would come to mine.  Is there some web-site or something for this type of info?  My friend offered to watch our baby at her house but doesn't feel comfortable giving me a price and I don't want to totally low-ball her.  DH and I were thinking possibly $150-$200/week (or $30-$40/day).  Is that too low, too high?  And more than likely it would be for about 6-7 hrs/day.  What do you think?

I do work from home now and travel into the office once a month for 5 days and was just told that once the baby comes, I can work from home full time.  YAY!!  However, it was also stipulated that I need to have a sitter or daycare and that I cannot be the daycare.  Totally understandable.  I am on a lot of telecon's throughout the day so I'm not really sure I would be able to care for the baby's needs anyway.  I really wouldn't know b/c I've never had a baby.

TIA!

Re: In home daycares

  • My center charges $150/week and one of our teachers is getting ready to leave in a week to do in-home child care.  She will be state licensed, so the Job & Family Services provides her with families should she need them to and I believe she said she will be paid $120/week/child, if that helps:)

I definitely think it's less for in-home child care than centers.

  • I would call around to daycare centers in your area and get an idea of what the going rate would be.  It is going to be totally dependent on your area.  I would offer her something close to what a smaller, church-based center would cost.  She's not going to be able to offer what a larger center would in terms of services, curriculum, special programs, etc. so I would not offer her what something like that would cost.

I am going to be paying $207 a week for this baby to be in a center.  Around here, I would think that an in-home caregiver would charge between 150-160 a week.

  • I think it depends where you live and the price of daycare in general.  Around here in home daycare runs $100-125 a week and a daycare will run $160-225 a week.

  • Around here centers are about $300 a week and home daycare ranges from $150-$200.

  • Your state licensing service should have a website where you can search for daycare centers (in home and out).  You can probably get a good idea about the price from there.

  • Thanks for all of the good pointers! Big Smile
  • It really depends on your city.  Phoenix has a website that does studies on the average costs of daycare in every county in the State...do a google search on childcare costs in your city.  They also break it down by what kind of childcare (in home, center, or private).  That being said...we are going to pay $40 per day/175 per week.  That is actually pretty high for our area though (avg range is about $130 per week).
