PSA: Georgetown will have fireworks on the 4th!

From our City's Public Information Office:

July 4 and Fireworks at -->-->San Gabriel--> -->Park-->-->

The 28th annual Sertoma Club July 4th celebration and fireworks display will be held at San Gabriel Park on Monday, July 4. The event is sponsored by the Georgetown Sertoma Club service organization with assistance from the City of -->-->Georgetown-->-->.

Permitted Fireworks Display

The July 4 fireworks display is scheduled to occur at this time. Fireworks begin at about 9:30 p.m. on July 4. Fireworks displays that are permitted by a local fire department are allowed under the -->-->Williamson--> -->County-->--> disaster declaration.

Fireworks are launched from the McMaster Athletic Fields on -->-->N. College Street-->-->. Extra precautions to minimize fire risk include extra watering of the fall zone at McMaster softball fields and the use of volunteer spotters to report glowing embers to firefighters stationed in the area. Extra firefighters and police officers will be working on July 4.

Hometown Parade in the Park

A July 4th Hometown Parade in San Gabriel Park begins at 11 a.m. at the Morrow Street low-water crossing and ends at the gazebo. Participants should gather at 10:45 at the low-water crossing. Kids are encouraged to decorate their wagons or bicycles for the parade. No motorized vehicles or pets. The annual parade is sponsored by the Leadership Georgetown Alumni.

Entertainment, Food, and Activities

A festival area at -->-->San Gabriel--> -->Park-->--> opens at 11 a.m. with 60 arts and crafts vendors, 20 food vendors, a petting zoo, train rides, children?s rides, and face painting. Starting after the parade and throughout the afternoon and evening, entertainers will perform at the gazebo in -->-->San Gabriel--> -->Park-->-->.

Parking

Limited parking in -->-->San Gabriel--> -->Park-->--> includes the parking lots at the Show Barn and the Rodeo Arena. Public parking also is available in the lot at the former Albertsons, accessible via Morrow Street on -->-->N. Austin Avenue-->--> or Interstate 35. Attendees also are encouraged to park at -->Georgetown--> -->High School--> and carpool to -->-->San Gabriel--> -->Park-->-->. Limited handicapped parking is available in designated areas in -->-->San Gabriel--> -->Park-->-->.

Both the McMaster Fields parking lot and the Parks and Recreation Administration Building Parking lot at -->-->N. College Street-->--> and -->-->W.L. Walden Drive-->--> will be closed due to their proximity to the fireworks fall zone.

College Street and McMaster Fields Closure

Due to the fireworks fall zone, -->-->N. College Street-->--> will be closed on Monday from 8:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. between the Morrow Street low-water crossing and -->-->Holly Street-->-->. Parking, standing, or sitting along -->-->N. College Street-->--> will not be permitted during this time.

The McMaster Athletic Fields will be closed all day on Monday, July 4.

Fireworks Use Banned

The use or sale of fireworks has been prohibited in all areas of -->-->Williamson--> -->County-->--> through 7 a.m. on July 5, due to the county-wide exceptional drought conditions. The ban does allow for displays by pyrotechnic professionals that are specially permitted by a City fire department. The fireworks ban is the result of a disaster declaration on June 14 for -->-->Williamson--> -->County-->-->, and extended through July 5 by Texas Governor Rick Perry.

According to the ban, the use or possession or fireworks is a class B misdemeanor. Those who violate the ban are subject to arrest and could face a fine of up to $1,000 and up to 180 days in jail. The use or possession of fireworks in Georgetown City Limits is not allowed at any time, except in a permitted display.

The fireworks ban covers any device lit by an ignition source, including but not limited to, sparklers, firecrackers, Roman candles, aerial repeaters, aerial shells, bottle rockets, spinners, wheels, fountains, missiles, and snakes.

I agree, we'll probably be one of many Austin families that head north! Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Sometimes I wish the 4th of July was in November or some other month where sunset was before bedtime. Even having the girls IN bed by 9pm is pushing it =(
