birth control ?

I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but I am trying to find the best option for BC.  Eventually DH will be "fixed."  In the meantime, I was thinking IUD, anyone done this?  Is their any side effects?  I really dont want to take the bc pill, use to and gained weight and had mood swings.  What are the best options with min. side effects??  I dont want anymore kids, 2 and done here!  Of course, I am going to start talking to my Dr about this, but wanted to hear some real reviews too!  TIA

Re: birth control ?

  • I was going to get my tubes tied but decided against it.  I am going to get the IUD (unless i change my mind) when i go for my 6 week check up. Then in 5 yrs if we see we still do not want anymore children DH will likely get fixed.

  • I will be having my tubes tied this time around, but after DD I went on the Depo Provera shot.  I needed something that was breastfeeding friendly, but didn't trust myself to take the mini pill on as close of a schedule as you need to for it to be effective.  If I had dilated at all during labor I would have gone the IUD route, but since I didn't my OB thought insertion could be painful for me.

  • We'll probably use condoms at first, then natural family planning.  I have a feeling we'll be having LO#3 pretty soon after this one, so I don't want to get an IUD.  Eventually that's what I'll get, though, when we start thinking we're done.

I've only had good experiences with the pill, so I'll get back on that. I thought about an IUD, but we'll want another in two or three years, and there is a very very small risk of uterine damage with those, given the difficulty we had getting pregnant this time I'm not willing to take any kind of additional risk. After LO#2 DH will get cut.

  • We will just be using condoms and natural family planning also...we will see how our experience as first time parents goes, but our plan is to probably "try" again by 6-9 months after LO is born.

  • I initially went on the mini-pill last time- and then saw what seemed like a dozen "oops" babies here on the Bump!

I was not good about taking it at the EXACT time everyday so I opted to get Mirena.  I will get it again (but my doc waits until 8 weeks).  We are done having kids- but not ready to do anything permanent, especially since I had such a good experience with Mirena last time (my periods were so light- I barely needed light tampons for 1 day per cycle).

  • Took mini-pill for almost 7 years. No side effects.....and (almost) no periods the whole time.

  • We are doing NFP.  It took us 2 years to get PG after an ectopic pregnancy.  I suppose we will use condoms for the first few months, but if I get pregnant after that, I'll definitely consider it a blessing more than anything else.  If I don't, oh well.
