I had the staples removed from my head yesterday, but the dr couldn't get one out. Somehow it had gotten kinked and her remover was too wide and she told me I'd need to go to the ER to have it done. The hospital that originally saw me had given me a remover to bring to the office in case they didn't have one, so I had it in the car with me.
I went to my local ER this morning, remover in hand, and they wouldn't even see me without registering me, which would have cost me at least my co-pay of $150. All I needed was 2 mins of a nurse's time, no equipment, nothing. But no, they wouldn't. Fine.
Didn't really want to call my mom (a former nurse who is hardly willing to give me advice about the kids' health, so I can just imagine how she'd feel about removing the staple) so when I couldn't sleep I started searching YouTube. When I saw what the staple looks like as it's being removed, I was able to get the right angle and pop it out myself.
YAYAYAYAYAY for no more metal in my head!
Re: Screw you, ER, I took out my own damn staple.
::sobs and rocks in the corner::
I'm going to have nightmares about this tonight. I'm not usually squeamish, but for some reason the thought of removing a staple from my own head makes me want to kind of hurl.

It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I think it hurt worse going in.
But yeah, it kind of made me want to go shake MH awake and say "Guess what I just did!!" LOL
Now I kind of wish DH would do something requiring staples so I can remove them. I've taken out his stitches before.
WAIT! I totally forgot he had 21 staples after his shoulder surgery. I'll make sure I go with him after the next surgery when he has them taken out. Perhaps the surgeon will humor me and let me do one.
Rawr, woman...if you can't get it done right, just do it yourself! At least you didn't put them in AND have to take them out.
I think one of the first things I asked my OB when I saw her after my section, was whether she used staples or sutures to close me up. If it had been staples I don't think I could have looked at it, but luckily she used the dissolvable stitches. Even those freaked me out a little bit until they finally went away.
