GD Diagnosis Delay

I failed my one hour test last Monday when my doctor was out of the office.  I had to go back in on Wednesday to get a prescription for the lab to do the three hour, which I was unable to do until Saturday (I work FT).  I couldn't stomach the sugar drink after an hour and a half and invalidated the test.  I rescheduled for yesterday and y ook the day off to do it, but my DH got a last minute interview and I had to watch DS instead.  So now it's been a week and a half, and I can't get tested again until Saturday.

To get to the point. . .

Should I be worried that my diagnosis has been delayed?  If I do have GD, is it a problem that I didn't find out sooner?

I'm also trying to find out as much as possible about what I should be eating just in case I have it.  Any suggestions on how to keep my sugar levels low while waiting on my diagnosis?

  • I wouldn't worry too much. I wasn't tested (and a lot aren't) until 28 weeks, and you're not even there yet. Just try and keep your carbs in check just in case until then. You'll find some good posts on the board of people giving their allowed carb amounts and food suggestions. Hang in there, I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

  • Agree with pixie.  Many moms aren't even tested until 28 weeks, the office takes a week to get back to them, yada, yada, yada and then they're 30 weeks.  Check out some of our posts.  Eat protein with every meal and snack.  Avoid milk and fruit before noon (until told differently by your nutritionist).  Eat 30 gm carb for breakfast, 30-45 for lunch, 30-45 for dinner, and 15 with a morning and an afternoon snack.  I only get 15 for bedtime snack, but some ladies get 30.  Your nutritionist will give you a specific diet plan for you, but this should help you stay out of trouble for now.  Also- get exercise after meals (if possible, but at least once a day).  Stay hydrated and get good rest at night.  GL!  You'll be fine!

  • Ditto the other ladies. With this LO it was 2 weeks between when I did my 1 hour and 3 hour. I had loosely started the diet on my own and things were fine. Just do your best for now and don't stress about it. GL!
