Austin Babies

would you pick your parents up from the airport at 1:30am

or would you have them take a cab?

my parents are flying in tonight and their flight was delayed 3 hours. they are now expected to arrive tonight at 1:30am. DH was planning on picking them up when the were supposed to arrive at 10:15pm.

My mom mentioned taking a cab if it got to late. Is It unreasonable to have them take a cab at this hour?

We live about 35 minutes from the airport.

And DH has a cold and isn't feeling well and was hoping to go to bed early.

eta: and we're both working tomorrow.

update: so they ended up taking a super shuttle and getting to our house around 2:40am! I was up to pee at 2:30 so i texted my mom and she said they were almost there, so i waited up to meet them. They were fine with getting a ride. My mom would have freaked if i had shown up to pick them up. She really thinks i should be sitting at home anyway waiting for this baby to pop out. We left them sleeping in this morning and we're at work now. DH didn't even stir when they got there. ha!

Thanks for all your opinions!

  • Have them take a cab. It is way too late! By the time they get their bags and DH drives them home and back who knows what time it will be.

  • Will supershuttle shuttle still be open? If so, book a ride w/ them, it'll be cheaper

  • I'd pick them up.  But I'm a weirdo.

    BUT...I don't think it's rude to ask them to take a cab/shuttle.

  • I'd let DH sleep since he's sick, go get the parents since I'd be up with preggo insomnia anyway, and then take the day off work tomorrow.  The grandparents can get up with the kid in the morning and I'd be able to enjoy sleeping in.

But it's not unreasonable or rude to have them take a cab/shuttle.

  • I hope you had them take a cab!  I wouldn't have brought the option up if they didn't, but since your mom did, I think it's totally fine.  My mom took a Super Shuttle to the airport a few times when she was leaving after the kids' bedtime or during naptime.

  • My husband is a night owl, I'd have him go. :)
  • It depends.  If DH was working over night and I was alone with DD, I wouldn't wake her at that hour to drive to the airport.  I know my family wouldn't expect me to either.  If DH was home with us, he would drive over at that hour while I stayed home with DD.
  • What did you end up doing?

Me, I'd have gone myself and then felt angry with them about it and be angry at DH anyway even though he didn't feel well. I'd have kept myself awake into exhaustion and probably end up vomiting before being able to go to sleep.
