I was going to post this on 9-12 because I thought that I might get more responses and quickly was reminded why I don't go there anymore. That board barely has a baby related post on it today! I ran home quick!
So anyways, I was at church this sunday and there was a baby there that was 9 months and seemed so much more ahead of my almost 11 monthers. It got me worried that I'm not doing enough with them! They have a nanny and don't get much interaction with other kids because she has a truck and can't take them anywhere and on the weekends we are always doing something or just playing and hanging out. I need to get focused on teaching them things!
So I'm curious what other 11 month olds know. This 9 monther had just learned where his nose was. Does yours point, know certain words (not say them, but understands). And then also, what games and activities do you play to help teach them things? I know the basic things and just try to walk around and talk about as much as I can, but just looking for some new ideas.
Re: what does your 11 mo. old "know"
Hmmm.. Mine definitely do not know where their noses are. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Harry has just started making a kissy noise when I show him food.... does that count? Alex will crawl over to his boppy and lay himself down when I show him the bottle.
We just talk a lot. No special learning games. They do a lot of "activities" at DC, so I feel like the weekend should be relaxing for them.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
I've felt the same way as you - but my pediatrician has told me that just talking & playing with them every day is enough "learning" at this point because they're always learning from what's going on around them. I do the same as you, just talk about everything going on and if they point to something, I say what it is - so sorry, I don't have any further suggestions for you!
Things my boys can "do":
- wave bye-bye (but only when they want to)
- Wyatt can point to a ceiling fan and make the round & round motion with his arm while saying something that sounds like (but isn't) "Round & round."
- Colton just started giving high fives this week - I'm not sure where he picked that up from??
- if we ask where our dog is, they look for her
That's about it - they don't seem close to knowing parts of their body or who mommy or daddy are, even though those are things I repeat to them every day. My sister watches my boys at my house (along with her two) while we're at work, so mine don't leave the house during weekdays either.
Every baby is so different. We have friends who have twins 3 weeks younger than ours and hers aren't crawling yet and will only eat puree. For what it's worth here is what mine are doing:
DD:
Walking on furniture - has taken a couple steps on her own
Pattycake
Wave bye bye
Shakes head side to side when I say "no no"
Does "how big" by putting her arms up in the air
Gives highfive
DS:
Crawls
Wave bye bye
No No
How big
If you ask him where his tongue is he sticks it out
