Who posted the DIY Vanilla Extract back in the winter? I thought I had it book marked on my computer, and it's disappeared, I'd like to pin it if anyone can share the link to the blog again, it was the lady who made it with her daughter.
Slit a vanilla bean, stuff it in a jar and fill with vodka. Let it sit at least 6 weeks. The more vodka you use, the more beans you need. Probably one per 1/2-1 cup.
It's on a thousand sites and they are all the same.

I made it last year in October. The vanilla was good, but I had quite a bit left over and now that it has sat even longer it is much, much better. With that in mind I'm going to go buy some vodka this week and start another batch now so that when Christmas comes around it will be very well aged.
All I'll do is put a bunch of vanilla beans in a liter of vodka and let it sit in a dark cabinet. That's it. I'll wait until closer to the holidays to put it into individual jars.
I found that the most affordable way to buy bulk vanilla beans is to look on eBay. I still have a ton left from last year!

It's pretty basic.
