I think I'm ready to change OB providers. I currently go to a group practice that has a high rate of cesarean sections -- I started going there because my GYN is in the same office and I just didn't know any better when I first got pregnant. I just began doing research (I'm 26 weeks and will be a FTM) and realized that I need to look into a better practice. My current OB has 15 potential doctors that could deliver and they only give you a chance to meet 5 of them. Of the 3 that I have met so far, I'm not impressed with a single one. They are all very short with me and give me the feeling that I'm wasting their time if I have any questions. It is very important for me to have a normal vaginal delivery (if possible) and a cesarean only if medically necessary. Any recommendations on a good OB? I'm in the White Marsh area.
Re: Looking for a new OB
I had a successful VBAC with my practice at UCMC. I see Levy/Morey/Sopher/Swanbeck. There was a point in my labor where it looked like I may need a c/s, and my doctor and the nurses did several things to avoid the c/s. I was extremely happy with my entire experience. The practice is very VBAC friendly.
My original c/s was at this practice (it was just Morey/Swanbeck then) due to placenta previa...wasn't possible to avoid a c/s.

I love my practice. I go to Ob/Gyn Specialist of Maryland (https://www.obgynspecialists.net/) They do deliver at GBMC and I did wind up with a c-section but I do not blame that on the practice at all.
A friend-of-a-friend worked at GBMC and had unfavorable things to say about their laboring policies as well as their C-section rate. I'd urge you to look into that further before deciding that you'd like to deliver there.
I delivered at St. Joe's with Capital Women's Care and had an incredible experience. The practice had, at the time, 5 doctors and one midwife (they may have added another doctor since then - I see the same each time I go for my check-ups and haven't paid attention to the roster to see if changes have been made). During your prenatal care, you are scheduled with each doctor at least once so that you get the chance to meet them. I certainly felt more of a connection with some doctors over others, but never once did I feel as though the doctors were incompetent or uncaring. I highly recommend them.
I delivered at St. Joe's and love my doc and had a great experience at St. Joe's as well.
Her name is Joanne Lim. 410-661-2501 (this is the parkville office, the perry hall office is new) She has several offices but I see her at the Perry Hall office.
She also has a sister and brother who are also OBs. They share offices but you will always see your doc. (although I think they will cover for each other if need be) I saw her sister for one appt once and I really liked her too.
Hope this helps!
I also highly recommend OB/GYN Specialists. I delivered at GBMC and had a fantastic experience. I was induced at 41.5 weeks, had a VERY slow progressing labor, and was practically begging for a Csection. If it wasn't for Jeanette Wolfe (OB/GYN Specialist's MW) and the awesome nurses encouraging me, I never would have held out and eventually delivered my 10lb baby vaginally.
Good luck!
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
Another vote for this practice! I go to Dr. Akman but saw Akman, Asare, & the midwife Jeanette while preg. They were all great! I delivered at GBMC w/o a c-sec (D' was late, wouldn't drop & I had to be induced but no c-section).

I agree with a previous post. I have Levy/swanbeck/sopher/morey and I LOVE them! I had a wonderful experience at UCMC despite what a few people said I have heard nothing but good things with their birthing center. Nurse's were great and I love my Dr's. They are available to talk all the time. Plus I met a woman in the lactation group had the same dr as me and she said how much respect she had for her Dr letting her labor and not pushing her to have a C/S. She had a successful natural delivery.
