Confession: I'm getting impatient!

And seriously, its so dumb!    But it looks like he won't be walking or have his first word yet by his birthday...boo.  I know its dumb, that all babies develop at their own rate and there is a huge range of "normal"...but dang it!  I want to hear him say "mama!" with meaning!  (and he's getting really freaking heavy!! ha!)

Um, Anna is almost 13 months. And isn't walking. And no first word (as far as we can tell). She says things that sound like words, but not in the right context. So you aren't alone!

DD only says dada and dog, but doesn't say mama consistently.  said it once.  GRRR, i take care of her more.

 I feel your pain.  Hugs, mama!

We are in the same boat!

D will take a few steps and fall, but that is about it.  I would love to hear a mama too!

I remember thinking the same thing. Hayden took his first steps a few days before he turned 13 months and said one word (hi) before 12 months. Mama didn't come along until 15 months or so.  Plus walking isn't all it is cut out to be. NOow he runs and i spend most of my time chasing him or trying to get him to listen.

My son is 14 months and still not walking.  I think he says "mama" with meaning, but not often.  He calls every man he sees "dada" so we are getting closer to the correct meaning, but he still hasn't figured out that only my husband is "dada".  I think it makes some of the dads at daycare uncomfortable when he does this .

I'm looking forward to him getting some more words, but I'm trying to enjoy as much baby time as I can.  I'm totally fine with him not walking because I know it will be fun for a week and then we'll be wishing he was still crawling.

DD makes the sound of dogs barking but doesn't say mama.  Should I be insulted?

No steps here either!

DD says "Daddy" to DH (sob!) and has a word that sounds like "doggie" that she uses all.the.time.  I'm not counting it as a word quite yet, because it's not super-clear.

The word she says the most clearly is "No."  Gotta love it!

(This morning I noticed her nails needed to be cut, so I said, "Let's go cut those nails, sweetie."  To which DD replied, "No."  How is this happening already??!!)

I remember wishing soooo badly that Caroline could talk...and now?  Well, sometimes, I long for the quiet.  Especially when she asks where her Daddy is 84,911 times a day.  That gets old...quickly...

We don't even need to talk about the word NO.  I've only been told "NO!' 4,963 times today...and its barely lunch, lol.

Ha! It's ok. It's a tough balance between wanting them to grow up and wanting them to stay little forever, isn't it?

Will took a few first steps two days before his birthday. And he thinks walking is lame. Oh well. It may be a while before he actually uses walking as a mode of transporting himself as opposed to a way to amuse his parents for .5 seconds (he takes two steps, max in front of us, usually once a day, just to appease us). I go back and forth between cheering him on and just letting him enjoy his crawling.

And words, I long for those, but I know there are times he will drive me crazy in the future! Will only says mama when he is eating something he likes or at other random times - it sounds like mama, but it's more like mmmm. He also baby signs but never in a way that makes sense. Yesterday he was in his stroller and kept signing "more." I was like - more what, dude?? And he often signs all done and then gets upset when you interpret it to mean that he is all done with what he is doing (eating, playing, bathing, whatever). My kid is a little enigma!! So maybe that's why I want him to actually talk!

While Robbie walked at 11 months, words did not come until 18 months.  Now at almost 3, he won't stop talking!

All of these responses made me giggle   Thanks ladies!  I always feel like he is so close to talking or walking...think I hear words...he takes some steps...and then nothing!  he's a tease!!

This is one positive aspect of having my first DS be "delayed" in several areas (first steps and first words right around 17/18 months). Ben is clearly doing a lot of things sooner, and it is utterly shocking to me to see him doing the gross motor skills on the "average" timetable. He is not walking yet but I can tell he wants to (cruising all over the place), and I bet it will happen near his first birthday.

And no matter when it happens, it's just as exciting!

Ditto this for my DD (except her name is Audrey).  Although we went out for dinner on Friday, and it was questionable that she said "pizza" - would have been more like "dit-da."  (No specific mama or dada, her first word would be pizza!)

My DS didn't *really* talk until he was 15ish months...and now he won't stop.  The other day a car was turning around in our driveway - we heard "mama, car coming...car come up hill...car go down hill...bye bye car."  He also didn't walk until over 15 months - I was anxious too, but now I am counting my blessings that DD isn't walking yet

Aww, let him be! My little guy seems like such a big boy now that he is walking like crazy! Really don't rush it, once they start they get into everything, they are no longer happy in the stroller, highchair etc, forget hugs and cuddling...being on the move is so much more fine, and don't get me started on the bumps and bruises! I wish I could go back to crawling  

And if it makes you feel better I only get Mama when he is crying, which I guess is ok, but I am still not totally sold he is saying it with meaning.
