Hair help

Before I started to take the hormone IF drugs, my hair was almost like a shampoo commercial. I have always had thick hair (not each strand being thick, just a TON of hair) and the hormones (from the drugs & pregnancy) made it go from straight & silky to very coarse & really frizzy. Since I have so much hair, it's also very poofy. My hair is down to my boobs and now just looks like a mop (no split ends, though, thankfully). It used to look so nice and I don't want to chop it if I can do something to help it.

I don't use any heated styling appliances ( no blowdryer or flat iron) but maybe I need to? Are there any good products out there that I can use that will bring back my nice hair w/o me needing to use a blowdryer/flat iron? Since my hair is so dry now, I only really wash it 1-2 times a week at the most. I also apply a leave-in conditioner & hair oil while it's still wet, yet it's still coarse/dry/frizzy/poofy.

Any product/styling recommendations?

Re: Hair help

  • That stinks! I would go get a cut and ask the stylist for product advice. You might not have to cut it all off, but a trim/different style might help work with your hair's new texture.

This. A stylist will give you the best advice, since we can't actually see/touch your hair.

The one product I do swear by for my crazy curly frizzy hair is John Frieda's Frizz Ease Secret weapon. Just a dab on my dry hair seems to calm everything down.

Hmmmm, I never thought of putting something on it when it was dry. I think I'll pick some of this up to give it a whirl Smile

  • Layers. Sometimes the amount of hair you have can make it worse. I have a lot of thin hair so my hair is still "thick". Once it hits a certain length it gets dry, frizzy, piecy looking unless I layer it to take some of the weight off it. I love Bumble & Bumble Gentle Shampoo and Super Rich conditioner when it's dry and I also use their styling creme and defrizz. I also love Renee Furterer Karite Serum.
  • Ask your hairdresser for a keratin treatment.  They are kinda pricey.  I pay $250 every 4 months for mine, but LOVE my hair afterward.  No frizziness, and about 5 minutes to blow dry straight.  My OB said it was fine to do once I was in my 2nd trimester as long as the room is well ventilated.

  • Aveda also makes a hair product called smooth infusion.  It has worked wonders for my thick hair!

  • I have straight fine hair that likes to frizz. I like to put a dab of firm hold gel in my hair while it's still wet. The gel keeps away the frizzies and doesn't actually "hold" it. The Frizz-Eze would just make my hair look oily and frizzy.

I also don't "do" it. Shampoo, condition, comb, gel. I let it air dry.
