I have never used BC before, we always used condoms and after almost a year of not using condoms I don't think we can go back. So I need some recommendations.
I'm okay with taking a pill daily, and I'm not BF so I don't have to worry about that. I don't want an IUD because we are planning to start trying for another in the next year.
TIA!
Re: Recommend your Birth Control
DH got a vasectomy, so that's our BC!
Before that, though, I charted and we used condoms. BC Pills exacerbated my migraines and killed my sex drive, so I chose to never go back on hormonal BC.
I was on Orthotricylclen Lo for as long as I can remember..since DH and I met, went off it when we got married (got pregnant immediately after going off it) and am back on it now after the girls.
I've never had any problems with it. It has better regulated my period, but not changed it as I've never had a super heavy flow. I don't have any side effects from it, I love it. Because of a mix up with my RX, one time I took the generic Ortho but the regular dosage not the Lo, and it did upset my stomach. If you have a sensitive stomach, I'd recommend the Lo dose.
I've thought about doing Mirena which is an IUI but for now am sticking with the pill since I know it works for me
pill. i also had some queasiness reg ortho and went on the ortho lo. then on to loestrin (sp?) and never had any problems
there are a variety of generics to loestrin and last I heard none to ortho lo, hence the switch due to the cost of the brand name. BUT... the generics aren't all the same from pharmacy to pharmacy and so I stuck to the Walmart pharmacy only for BC b/c I didn't like the generic version our CVS carried. Point being, if you're going with a generic version of something then you may have dif. reactions, just look for changes in how you're feeling both physically and emotionally to find a good fit
fwiw.. i have a friend who likes the ring. sounds wierd to me, but then again, i've done bc for eons and have never tried anything else.
I plan on doing the depo shot after the girls are here. Glad to hear you liked it. It's safe during BFing, right? After I'm done BFing I'll probably go back on the pill - I took it for 7 years and never had a problem with it.
After 2 years, Injects, PCOS diagnosis and 2 IUI's, we were blessed with our beautiful twin girls!
Baby Girl #3!
My DH had a vasectomy so that is our permanent BC. But I have endometrosis and have been on several forms of BC of the last couple of years to try to control the pain. I was on the nuvaring for about 5 months and I really liked it because like a PP said you can don't have to take it out on the recommended date if say you have a special event coming up and you don't want your period. You can keep it in an extra week if needed before putting in a new one.
But it didn't keep the endo at bay, so I went onto Depo Provera, I had been on this for 10 years prior to going off to get pregnant with the girls. I loved Depo because of the no period thing and I used to get bad cysts on my ovaries when I was 20 and it kept them away, that is why I was on it for some many years. When I went back on it this time, they told me it couldn't be permanent because it does has some serious bone loss side effect and I am already in risk factor for osteoporisis. I am small framed and my paternal and maternal grandmothers both had it bad.
So now I am on Implanon. It does the exact same things as Depo Provera, but does not have the bone loss side effect. And it is a 3 year birth control. So instead of getting a shot every 3 months (Depo Provera), it was inserted under the skin in my upper arm and I don't have to worry about anything for 3 years. It is controlling my endo. pain and I don't get a period. I will be doing this until I am ready for menopause or if I somehow convince DH to have another baby (we have 6 vials of his sperm on ice before the vasectomy).
