Touring Nursing Homes for my Dad. FML.

:(

He doesn't qualify for in-patient rehab in a hospital setting, because their time requirements are more demanding than his heart can handle. So I get to spend my afternoon touring extended care facilities for my dad who is only 54 years old. Never thought I'd be in this place, and I'm sure he didn't either.

This effing sucks.

  • I'm so sorry, sweetie. I wish you lots of luck this afternoon.
  • I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this. We went through it recently with my SFIL and it's looking like we might have to do the same with my MIL soon. My mother is head nurse in a nursing home here in Austin, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me - mrs.wildman01 at gmail dot com. she's a wealth of knowledge and having been through it once already, i know how hard it can be to make a decision and know what's right/best. know that it IS for the best and they'll take excellent care of your father. **hugs**
  • Uuugh. Suck.

I hope you were able to fine one (some??) that will suit his needs. Any thought on bringing him to an extended care in Austin- just for the time being? Or, is there enough support in Houston?

that is tough...i'm sure its so difficult seeing your dad so vulnerable.  He will get better!  Just because he's going to a nursing home and not a rehab facility does not mean that he doesn't have the capacity to improve and rehabilitate.  It just may take a bit longer but the goal is the same.  At the nursing home, he will have more support than they will be able to provide at a rehab and when he has reached his goal, they will discharge him home.  Good luck with your search and I'm sorry to hear you're going through this.
