Cloth Diapering

Cloth Diaper safe cream--equivalent to A&D?

So I am trying to get together the supplies we will need for when LO is born so we can start using cloth as soon as we are home from the hospital.

When we met with the pediatrician today, he recommended that we get A&D to use in the butt/groin area with every diaper change to protect the skin----we are not going to do that and ruin all our diapers. I know that a cream may not be necessary at all, but if you were going to use one routinely to be spread over the area like that, what would you recommend that is similar in function/texture?

Specifically, does anyone know if Method diaper cream is actually CD safe? I only found it mentioned on one site (allaboutclothdiapers.com) but was hoping some of you would have actual experience.  I am also trying to avoid products containing lanolin because I am allergic (so CJ, California Baby, etc are out). My other thought was the Earth Angel brand, or the GroVia Stick (not sure about texture on that one).

Really appreciate your help with this one.....just being a neurotic FTM and wanting to be prepared for all contingencies. Thank you. (I will definitely come back and share my experiences in the fall)

Re: Cloth Diaper safe cream--equivalent to A&D?

  • Y'know, I've been thinking about this in other posts... the only time we've ever really had issues is when I was putting diaper cream on as a preventative.  We've been cream free for a few months now, and no hint of issues.

  • CJs has a stick and a spray, so that might work for you as you would not have to touch it to apply.

  • We've been having some great luck with Motherlove Diaper Rash & Thrush. No lanolin!

  • I use A&D. LOL! I used to use CD-safe cream (California Baby and Angel Baby Bottom Balm), but then they started staining my diapers. So I started putting a fleece liner down. And then I realized, since I'm using a liner anyway, might as well use a cream that is way more effective and cheaper.

So. A&D it is! But I do not use it with every change. Just when he's rashy.
