I just read on a website that if babies are excelusively breastfed- the poop is water soluble and the diaper can be thrown straight into the washing machine without having to rinse it first. Is this true?

Yup - formula and breast milk both are. We put our dirty dipes in washer with a cold prewash and all the yuckies are gone before I add detergent and do a hot wash. It's not until you add solids that you have to dunk/spray/plop the poo.
