Need ideas for items for a new dad gift???

I have been trying to come up with a cute gift for my husband to give him before the baby arrives.  I think I have decided to put together a new dad care package.  I will definately be putting a delicious coffee and maybe a cute "world's best dad" coffee mug or something cheesy like that.  i also want to put in a couple other items, but I amt totally drawing a blank.  Any ideas????  Thanks ladies!

This has absolutly nothing to do with being a dad, nor is it something he'd get to keep, but I'm leaning towards getting DH a really nice bottle of scotch.  The kind of thing you don't normally buy for yourself but you really enjoy...  Not sure what your DH is into, but that'll go over well in my house.

  • I made a bunch of onesies for LO with DH's favorite sports teams on them. I just bought plain white onesies in various sizes, then got the clear t-shirt transfer paper that you can use in any laserjet color printer. I downloaded the logos and printed them out, then ironed them on. Gave them to him on Fathers Day, along with a Diaper Dude bag and a "my daddy loves me" book.   Im sure he would have also loved a bottle of liquor in the diaper bag too, but I didnt think of it! hahaha

  • Cute idea, but I had to laugh.  My husband works for a Scottish company and gets a nice bottle of scotch with every deal that he closes.  Let's just say his scotch supply is greater than his consumption considering he doesn't really drink.

Haha- yeah, that'd be a big fail in your house.

  • I think this is a great idea. Everyone keeps asking DH what he's getting me as a push present? but I think dads should get a "coach present". after all it is both of our day, not just mine. I got him a stainless steel pocket knife with daughters name ingraved on one side and her birth day on the other and am having it sent to the hospital to suprise him with

  • I acutally got my husband a "baby" gift back when we first found out we were pregnant.  We have a Wii (he got it for me for Christmas a few years back) and it is a great family game system, I have a almost 9 year old SD, and we all play it and really like it.  But hubby really likes sports games, i.e. Madden.  The Wii sucks for those.  So i got him at PS3 and the new Madden and a membership to game fly.  I gave it to him months ago though, only because I figured once baby comes, he won't get to use it!!

(I should mention, my husband is not "gamer".  It does not take over his life.  Acutally, he goes weeks without touching it, so I could get this and not have the fear that he will sit on the couch for days on end playing Modern Warfare and not move)

  • Just a thought, something I did for Father's Day were mini gifts of things that I knew my DH was looking forward to doing with baby upon arrival.  Or things that he can't wait to do when baby is older.

We're team green so it's not like they were gender specific, but I bought a mini tackle box for fishing with a little fishing hat, and bigger hat for DH.  We have season tickets to our returning NHL team so I bought 2 jersey's in each size, mini and big..etc.  Also added in stuff he likes for himself - scotch was in there oddly enough! LOL

Depends on what you DH is into and has mentioned that he can't wait to do with LO or take LO to.

  • Well my husband and I love the show The Office. So im getting him and the baby a shirt that says "thats what she said". He also hasn't drank any alcohol since we found out i was pregnant so he'll be getting a beer that is finally in the US before it was just in Mexico.  There is a few other things that im planning on getting him but still not sure.

  • not sure if you are having a boy/girl or team green but we are having a boy and I got DH and LO matching red baseball caps from Bass Pro Shops. If your hubby likes a certain sports team or other hobby you could get them matching hats or shirts.

I ordered a framed picture of DD from Shutterfly to arrive at DH's office the day he went back to work after his paternity leave. He was so sad to leave her. :(

  • Love all of the great ideas!  We are having a girl so not a ton of sporting good items will work, plus we are Texas A&M Aggies and I swear this child has every aggie item under the sun already!  My in-laws and sorority sisters took care of that.  He does do triathlons and cycling and is really looking forward to watching the tour de France with a newborn in his arms, so maybe I can find a onesie for that???

Where are you getting this from? That is an awesome idea!  Although it'll have to be a gift after the birth since I won't know his exact birthday yet. : )

  • Schnooks88- I just thought of it. I wanted something practical that he would have with him, and he can carry this and use it every day. It is an after the birth gift. I have the name engraved and the jewelry store is holding it when i call them with the birth date they will then engrave the other side and express mail it to me to give to DH
