Commuter question: does riding the bus make you sick?

For those of you who take some form of public transportation - do you find it makes you really sick?

I normally ride a commuter bus and it's been working fine, but in the past 3 weeks its been getting much, much worse; a few times I've sat down on the sidewalk after getting off the bus.  So I switched to the ferry this week which is better, just longer.

This morning I rode the bus again so DH could have the car, Ick!  Clearly there will be no more bus riding for me!

How are you doing? Have you made any changes to your commute?

Re: Commuter question: does riding the bus make you sick?

  • I take the bus. I notice that all the jerking & braking the driver does bothers me a ton more than it ever did before. Fortunately I haven't felt too ill - I actually did in 1st Tri, though.

I find that riding the bus gets LO to move around a lot, too!

  • I cannot stand taking the bus or subway anymore b/c of how sick it makes me.  I drive to work now but when DH needs the car i have to take the subway.  I make sure i always have water and snacks with me and have just eaten before and i carry a bag inside my purse in case I have to barf.  Hasn't happened yet but it almost did and I didn't have anything.  Being nervous about that made everything worse.  I'd continue on with the ferry idea if it was me :)  At least it's an option!

I take the bus and definitely feel nauseous for at least 30 minutes afterward.  Unfortunately I don't have another option so I take a bottle of ice water and some crackers and snack on that to distract myself.  Also, I'm sure its just coincidence but I find I am less nauseous on mornings when I have a good breakfast with protein in it.

Yep - I'm normally fine in the morning, but once we got into city traffic it was all over. I think I was green when I got off the bus.

Good idea about the ice water!

I've seen plenty of pregnant women on the bus.  So glad I'm not the only one having trouble!  Thanks ladies.
