Pregnant after 35

Getting a New Dr Now?! (kinda long vent) **updated**

So I'm merrily planning on talking over my birth plan with my doctor today, and learning about my options and such.  I wrote down all the questions that I wanted to ask her.  I felt really organized!  I got to hear my LO's heartrate (for once he settled down long enough so we could get a good listen).  Then my doctor comes in and says she has some bad news.  My heart stopped.  (I was thinking that something was wrong with my LO!)

Turns out she's moving to another state.  And her start date there is my due date, but she won't be practicing down here then either way.  So now at 30 weeks I get to find a new doctor.  Argh! Crying  I don't want to go looking again.  I just got settled into a routine with mine and we were *finally* on the same page for the birth plan and all.

It's just frustrating to have to find a new doctor with just 10 weeks to go.  (And I still have to find a good pediatrician to boot.)  She did throw me a bone on how I might be able to get to use the ped that I really wanted but who wasn't accepting new patients though.  So that was a good thing! Yes

It looks like I may be able to go with a new doctor in town that my friend had recommended a while back, but I've never met the dr so who knows?!  Argh.  **pauses in rant to pull out hair**  I know its not a HUGE deal with so many of us going through drama and well just... life, but one gets an idea in their head of how the birth will go and who will be there and now...I just don't know.  **sighs**

Thanks for getting this far...you so get a gold star!

 ***UPDATE***

Just met with my new doctor yesterday, and she's great!  Big Smile  I feel incredibly lucky to have found a great doctor at 32 weeks.  I was starting to have increasingly tougher contractions and luckily the doctor appt was for the same day!  I think it was partially due to stress, and it's much improved today.  (They weren't BH because they were steadily increasing and changing what I was doing didn't change them at all.)  And thankfully I hadn't dilated any when she checked me...whew!

I also discovered that I should have pre-registered at the hospital at 20 wks...my previous dr never told me that.  >.<  Oye!  Well, at least I feel like I've now accomplished important things. Smile Now to try and work on my hospital bag...although not sure how to best go about it since I use most of the stuff on a regular basis.

  • That just sucks!  So sorry this is happening to you so late in the game.  Hope it all works out, I'm sure it will.

Keep us posted on how you make out.  Best of luck with the new lead on a Dr.  Hey maybe you will like this Dr even more than the one you are currently with!  Ya never know.  I believe things happen for a reason so maybe your meant for better things?

    Best of luck!

  • At 29 weeks I'd be freaking out with needing a new doctor. I can totally understand your frustration!!

Fingers crossed for getting your pediatrician but it's not the best consolation prize!

No ranting frustration is too small, it's the biggest thing for YOU right now and that makes it a big deal.  I hope you can find a friend who has had a similar birth plan to you and will share their doctor!

  • Thanks for the support ladies!  It's frustrating, and my insurance is being really slow in transfering things around.  Hopefully I'll find out soon...this not knowing really STINKS! Tongue Tied  I'm hoping for the best though...this new doctor comes really highly recommended by several people that I trust.  So here's hoping!

  • That would frustrate me too. I hope switch goes smoothly.
For some reason it took us forever and a day to get and stay pregnant. Cancelled IVF, failed IUI's and a marriage in crisis sandwiched within two years. Now, we've been blessed with two girls and a Christmas Baby is on the way. Not planned but perfect. www.ApronStrings.typepad.com
