Managing Life with 2 kids... HELP!

Hello everyone! I am pregnant with my 2nd child. I am married with a 6 year old daugthter. Both my husband and I work full time jobs. How do you ladies handle a career and more than one child without going insane, but still have "me time"??? Any organization or time schedule tips? Any suggestions are welcome. I need all the help I can get

Re: Managing Life with 2 kids... HELP!

  • There's no secret. I went back to work when #2 was 5 mos.  At the time H worked reg. hours and we had many evenings home. I planned GNOs out about 1x/1-2 mos, we would each take a kid to run errands on the weekends, we always check with each other when making plans.

If whatever you have going now is working, just toss the baby in the mix.  We now have 4 kids and I don't work, but we don't plan our days around the kids, we just (I, mainly) pack them along and all goes well.

  • I have two, 2 and 4.5. I just don't expect to have "me time" on a regular basis while my kids are young. Now that my youngest is 2 I feel my life creeping back in with more time to work out or have a date night but I just don't expect that stuff in the the first two years. We are a kid-centric family, it's not everyone's choice and I expect dome flames.

  • Your oldest is 6, that should help a lot. I'm assuming by 6 she's self sufficient so that should help. I had 2 under 2 and that first year was pretty rough. Somoene always needed me and I always felt behind on stuff because as soon as i got home from work there was a million things to do. You adjust and just make it work.

I try to make lunches and pick out clothes the night before. When i buy things from the grocery store i label it before i put it in the fridge (for example i'll write their name on all the yogurts or cheese stick wrappers). So then when its time to pack lunches i just grab it. It seems like such a small detail but you grab 3 things for each kid each day and have to write their name on it all and it adds up.

  • I'm a single mom, work FT, and have two kids.  My 'me time' is at work and at night when they are in bed... though that is also time to pack lunches, etc.

I also get a babysitter a few nights a month to get out with friends.  I use the college aged teacher assistants at my girls school.  They love it because they get one on one time with 'Miss Ana' or whomever is coming that night.
