BH @ 23 weeks?

Is this even possible or could anyone help me with a similar experience??what I could possibly be experiencing?

It's like a tightening in my stomach (usually lower, but not always in the same area) maybe a 1/4 on the pain scale of a period cramp (just an intensity but then quickly edges to a dull uncomfortableness) and lasts for about 15-30 seconds before it relaxes again....can happen maybe 2-3 times in an 8 hour work day.

Is this just LO moving and turning or is it something I should be worried about?  It's impossible to get into my Dr sometimes, but I am due to see her next week... nothing else is out of the ordinary, but I just didn't think BH could be this early... can they?

Re: BH @ 23 weeks?

  • I started getting BH with DS at 22 weeks.  This time they started around 15 weeks.  I can feel my uterus feel hard during them - sometimes they are painful like a period cramp, other times they are just annoying.  I usually get anywhere for 3 a day to 3-4 an hour.

If you aren't getting more than 4-6 in a hour, most likely they are fine and nothing to worry about.  But mention them to your doctor.  Mine usually get better if I rest and drink water.

  • Started for me around 22 weeks. I think it's normal.

  • It's normal. I started getting them around 18 weeks or so, and the Dr wasn't concerned by it. I get them quite frequently now.

  • Sounds like BH. They can actually start around 6 weeks, you just don't feel them until later on.

I've been having them for a couple of weeks as well.

  • I have been having them for about 3 or so weeks.  I describe it like a hardening, heavy feeling in my uterus.  I thought that at first the kid was stretching across me, but after reading up on it, they are BH.  They are totally normal and actually good practice for your uterus!

This!  I just started feeling mine a few weeks ago.  Drink lots of water and maybe try changing positions when you have one.

  • With DD#1 they started probably between weeks 22-24.  This time it was much earlier.  I would just describe it as a hardening of my uterus.  A lot of the time it's caused from DD#2 moving.  Doesn't hurt at all, just annoying.

  • Sounds like BH to me.  I started getting them around 17/18 weeks with this pregnancy.  My Dr. told me that if I was having a lot of them, to drink more water.

  • Just to throw out another option,  it could be round ligament pain too.  I have the same thing, and I described it like this to my doctor.  She said it was definitely round ligament pain.    My pains are also about 15-30 seconds, but only usually when I shift positions, get out of bed, sneeze, etc.  It's very painful sometimes, but then goes away pretty quickly.  It's on the lower left or right of my abdomen.

My sister in law has had Braxton Hicks since week 22, but she described it as a relatively painless tightening that takes over her entire abdomen.  She has a short cervix, and her doctor isn't even concerned about the BH's.  So I wouldn't be concerned about it either, it sounds completely normal.

  • Totally normal and not too early at all.

First LO: BH started at 13 weeks.

This LO: BH started at 15 weeks.

Try changing position and drinking water when they come. BH shouldn't be painful, although they may be uncomfortable.
