My dh is 6'1 and weighs 315 lbs.
He is extremely overweight and wont try realistic ways to lose it. My sister has a degree in exercise science (personal trainer/dietician combo) and has written him out a diet & exercise plan. (healthier choices, smaller portions, high cardio) He wont follow it because its my sister. He has tried instead to starve himself all day, as a diet plan and then go to the gym to lift weights or play basketball. (which entails him running a very slow jog half way down the court, stopping to catch his breath and then running back down the other side). Then after a long day of starving himself he will give in and eat 3 sandwiches BEFORE dinner & then eat dinner. Following that he will stay up doing homework and snacking on chips, popsicles, and junk.
His other idea is to stop drinking soda. But he replaces it with tea and cool aid. And I dont mean that he limits it either. He will make 2gallons of cool aid and it lasts maybe 1 day. I allow the kids to have 1 cup/day & he drinks the rest. Depending on if he drinks tea or not it is gone by the then of the day.
Then he will go a few weeks like this and ask me if I notice a difference. He has managed to lose 10lbs but at 315lbs its not a substantial amount that you notice. It would be like me losing 1-2lbs.
Recently a friend of his lost 50lbs in a few weeks. She was over 300lbs as well. Dh acted like it was a major break through when she told him how she lost it. Guess what worked!? Cardio exercise, smaller portions and healthier choices. He told me about it all excited as if he had never heard such a thing. Then another former hs friend did the same thing. SAME FLIPPING WAY. Yet again he was surprised it worked so well.
I shouldnt have but I laughed at him. I told him that is what my sister told him to do 3 yrs ago. I even printed out the email she sent me 3yrs ago with it in there.
He worries about his leukemia coming back ALL the time. Stresses about it, gets really anxious when waiting for his new supply of meds to come in the mail etc. I have told him in a very serious, honest talk we had one day about it that he was more likely to have a heart attack or stroke before his leukemia would come back if he didnt lose some weight. I dont think he gets it how serios it is that he is this overweight. He carries it all in his stomach.
He also has high cholesterol & high BP in which he wont take his meds for.
Re: S/O: How much does your Dh weigh?
MH is 6'3" and 185 lbs. I'm the one with the eating problem in our family.
If his health is in really bad shape, could he consider a lap band or similar surgery?
He is. Has been diagnosed with being clinically depressed, having severe anxiety, & is bi polar.
Its all linked to his diagnoses of leukemia & the result of his meds making him gain weight. (it slows him metabolism & makes it hard to lose weight) He feels horrible most of the time but I think its due to being so overweight.
But he doesnt even try. That is what I have problems with. It would be different if he actually tried healthy ways to lose weight and just couldnt. He is stubborn and wont take the advice my sister gave him. Now he thinks its a huge break though that his friends lost weight doing the same thing she said to do.

DH is 5'9" and weighs 185, I think. He's slowly put on about 15 pounds in the 10 years we've been together, and I know he'd like to take it off, but overall, he's pretty healthy.

DH has a food addiction that he's been battling for years. He's got his cholesterol & BP under control. At his heaviest he was 405lbs....he's now 350ish. He knows what he has to do & is pretty good about it but the food addiction seems to keep tripping him up. Our insurance wont cover counseling to conquer the addiction...in fact our insurance covers nothing mental health related.
Sounds like your dh is in denial about everything.
Here's a pic of us....I'm no skinny minnie either
6' tall and about 185. I think he was 176 when we got married, so he's within 10 lbs of his wedding weight.
I am the one who's put on a crapload of weight.

That's overweight by BMI at least. And the person above who thinks her DH needs to only lose 20lbs... by bmi he is obese.
I have noticed the same thing about myself though. I am still overweight (by bmi and just logically. I am a size 14 at the Gap) but I notice that I don't think I look so fat anymore. But I am. I think a lot of us are surrounded by so many fat people that we are losing track of what's healthy.
To answer the OP I don't know what weight DH is. I know he's trying to lose weight though.
My DH is 6'2" and at his heaviest, was 240. I think he's down to about 225 now (he's in a physical job now, so he almost "had" to lose weight!).

I was at a meeting yesterday, and I was one of the younger attendees at age 37. Most were men in their late 50s, early 60s, and most needed to loose at least 30 lbs. Being in a room w/ older people who need to loose the weight really opened my eyes that I have to set a healthy lifestyle now. It is so, so hard to loose weight when you are older. I don't know why, but it just hit me hard yesterday.
My DH is 5'10" and weights 175.

He could stand to lose about 20-30lbs of belly weight. LOL
He is extremely muscular in the legs/shoulders. His fat is in his beer belly!
He works hard labor all day most every day. His issue is that he doesn't eat until dinner time. Not a single thing all day long. His body is running on zero yet he's lugging tree brush, cutting with a chainsaw (takes serious upper body strength), etc. For a while, he was eating breakfast/lunch and he dropped over 10lbs in less than 2 weeks.
jodi - the top bmi rec for him is 179!
that seems so thin though. I am 168 and 3* shorter! The 'people's choice ideal weight' is 210.

Zenya: You and I are about the exact same size, it seems. Same height, same weight, same clothing size. I look at myself and know that I could stand to lose a little weight but I don't think I'm really all THAT big. Like you said, maybe it's just that everyone is big so our perception is skewed.
As for my dh, I just looked it up and he's considered overweight as well which sort of surprises me. He's 5'8" and about 170ish lbs. Could he stand to lose a few pounds? Sure, but he still doesn't seem *overweight* to me.
I have a skirt in my closet from high school, I was eighteen or so when I used to wear it. I can barely get it past my knees anymore, lol. The tag says "9". The kicker: I'm a size "9" now. Hmmm. Something is definitely not right.
DH is 5'11" and is 190ish, trying very hard to lose the last 20lbs (he's dropped 60 already).
Liam is 5!
DH is 6'6 and 220. By doing strictly BMI he's considererd overweight. However by the waist to height ratio he's fine.

Honestly, I would not be attracted to him -- and he would looks SICKLY --- at 179lbs. The guy is so freaking strong - and loaded with muscle. Sure, he has a beer belly too and could stand to lose that but if he weighed less than 210 even, I'm trading him in for a bigger model!
Almost the same... 5'10" 190
My dh is about 5'10" and 169 lbs. About 7 years ago he got up to 208 and then started long distance running. He was up and down for several years and in the last year or two has really trimmed down. He doesn't really watch his diet too close (he eats healthy, just a LOT of food) but he runs 5 days a week and lifts once or twice a week if he has time.
DH is 5'10" and about 200. And anything less than 190 is ridiculous on him based on his build, I don't care what the BMI charts say.
At my lowest I was 128. I wore a size 2, and that was loose A lot depends on your body shape. I look best at about 135 and that is overweight by the charts. I am probably obese right now based on those charts and should do something about it. Yet I sit here waiting for the pulled pork to finish cooking!
He's 6' and weights probably 170. He will fluctuate about 5 lbs either direction. He'd like to gain 10-15 lbs, but he apparently just has an insane metabolism and has zero luck. He's never been outside of the 165-175 range in the 10.5 yrs I've known him.

My DH has been overweight since junior high and has some major genetics to work against. His parents and siblings are all at least obese, if not morbidly so. He is also on BP and cholesterol meds. I worry about him, but am thankful that he is doing something about it. The rest of his family aren't doing anything--and his sister may have to have a valve replacement before she turns 20 because of her weight. (She was born with Tetralogy of Fallot).
