July 2011 Moms

Day 10 of hospital bedrest. . .

and it's getting old.  My pre-e symptoms are fairly stable.  I have 3 or 4 NSTs a day and blood pressure checked every hour or two, depending on which nurse is on duty. We have had Biophysical Profile tests every other day.

I have done FOUR 24 hour urine test and get to start another one mid-day tomorrow.  When the doctor originally sent me to the hospital on 6/10, our goal was to make it to 36 weeks.  I reach 36 weeks on Wednesday.

When the doc came to visit this morning, she mentioned how well I was doing on the hospital bedrest, and suggested that if my 24 hour urine comes back okay, we'll keep doing what we're doing.

I definately agree that giving LO more indside time is what I want and what he needs.  I am however feeling great hospital fatigue, and I am physically beginning to feel really weak from being down in the bed.  I am hoping and praying for more mental strength and 'refocus'.  I really need it.

  • I'm sorry. I can't imagine the toll it would take, but I know it will be worth it for you. Hopefully by Weds you'll be able to get up and around if they decide to wait for delivery of LO, as long as your pre-e is looking better. Don't really have any advice to give, but maybe the high risk board may be able to identify with you a little more. Keep your chin up, momma. You're doing good making it this far.

  • You can do it- stay strong!

I haven't been on hospital bed rest, but strict bed rest at home for 8 weeks. I have been going to the doc twice a week for BPP and NST's with a 24 hour urine test once a week.  I know it is mentally challenging.  The ladies over on the High Risk Board are a great resource and inspiration.

It does suck, I am sorry.  Give your self a litle while to think this way and then turn it around.  I am not sure what you are doing to keep yourself entertained (although it sounds like it is 24 hour urine tests Wink ) but find something to keep your mind on other things, even for a while- books, internet, movies.

Good luck and I know you will get through this bump in the road.

Ugh :( I'm so, so sorry. I have been on home bedrest for 20 weeks and it has been awful, but I know hospital bedrest is worse.

How has your BP been and are you spilling protein????

I was supposed to come off of bedrest at 34 weeks, but my BP started to rise around 28-29 weeks. I have been hospitalized 3-4 times in the past 3 weeks (just overnight stays....) for possible pre-e, but urine and bloodwork always comes back okay.

Maybe you can ask about going home on bedrest????

    Take care!

  • I feel your pain, I did hospital bed rest for 31 days with DD because of pre-e. I just kept hearing the "lets keep cooking" after everything, because I responded to the bed rest well. This time I just got taken out of work for modified bed rest at home. I go back to the doctor on Thursday to see how it is going. I had to collect all my urine while there as well, because they wanted to know how much output and intake I had.

Try mindless entertainment, I couldn't sit through a whole movie....well clearly I had to sit there but I couldn't focus. I am normally a reader and I couldn't do that either. I played bananagrams, and the had this cart of things to do while on bedrest and I colored some of those big fuzzy posters. It was just sort of something to pass the time.

Also I looked forward to having someone bring me something other than hospital food to eat. Our hospital has a suprisingly good menu, but having to pick from the same things all the time was so boring. I especially liked when my mom would bring me air popped popcorn!

I'll for sure be praying for endurance! I promise the memories of the hospital time fades quickly!

  • You poor girl! I did 3 days of Hosp. BR for Pre-E and it was enough to drive me mad! I was able to talk my OB into letting me go home on BR because my mom is off of work for the summer (she works for the school system) and is able to "babysit" me until DH gets home. I've been able to keep my BP in a realitively steady range (right around 140/90) and have some how kept my protein to "trace"...but the Constant Migraines are about to kill me. I have my BPP today with a Dr visit, so I'm hoping he'll tell me that he's not going to let me go too much longer, because taking 2 Tylenol 3's every 6 hours can't possibly be good for me and LO either! (and, we've gotten to the point that my body has built up a tollerance to them and they're starting to not work either!)

I hope you can get home soon, and get some R&R in the comfort of your own bed!

  • I'm right there with you. I've been in since June 2. I have Vasa Previa, and will stay in the hospital until my c-section at 36 weeks, which for me is next Wednesday June 29th. So I will have been in for a total of 4 weeks. It's scary having VP, as it can potentially be very dangerous for the baby, but so far all has been going well, and there are no signs of labor that could endanger her.

It's pretty tough being here, I finally had a meltdown on Sunday and cried on and off all day. It's just hard feeling like your life is on hold while you hear/see your DH, friends and family all going on with their lives and having fun, etc. I am just thankful for this laptop, it's my window into the outside world. I am also thankful for all my visitors, seeing them is very helpful to me as well.

In the hospital I am at, there was a woman who just left this week after having her babies. She was in for a total of 10 weeks! I try and think of that and be thankful that I won't be in anywhere near as long as that. It helps a little.
