We have a niece named "Allie" and we were thinking about a name that would give her the nickname "Ellie" and i was worried they would be to similar....but in the end go with what you love. i don't think it will be do confusing.
It depends on how often they will be with each other. I have cousins I haven't seen in decades and I'm only 25 and they live on the other side of the country. I have cousins I've only seen a few times in the last 5 years and they live only a few states away and I have cousins that I barely see once a year and they live in state. DH has cousins in the same town he only sees on holidays. You see my point.
If they will be with each other a lot, for example if grandma will babysit both- then yes confusing. But not too confusing for just a holiday gathering. My brother's name is Chris and my cousin's name is Kristin. They share the first syllable of their name and it wasn't too much per each holiday.
If this baby is a girl her name will likely be Kenley and H's nieces nickname is Kenzie so it would be very similar but we don't see them often, usually only for holidays and random other times but it isn't like it is a weekly or even monthly thing usually. So I wouldn't let that stop me from using a name I like at all. And they might be moving to another country anyway, so I really won't stop using it. And H is from a HUGE family with literally like 35 first cousins and now they are all getting married or are married and having kids so names are bound to sound similar at this point. We don't even know the names of all the cousin's kids or spouses so we don't really care if it is similar or the same but other families may be closer where that will be a bigger issue.

I thought this post sounded familiar too. I do recall a post titled "Addilynn" from the other day.
