Matched and freaking out

We were matched this weekend after a whirlwind of applications. We need to have our homestudy updated with a private agency and I'm just concerned about it getting done in time. Our birthmother, D is due July 22nd.

Aside from the obvious paperwork, what else should we be doing to get ready?

Re: Matched and freaking out

  • You have plenty of time. We had our homestudy done in less than 2 weeks. Other than that, I would just start getting stuff ready around the house. Crib, carseat, stroller, clothes...

Again- I am thrilled for you!!!

  • Don't freak out :) You have time- we did ours in 11 days the first time and still had two days to prepare the house before the twins came home. However, we were just matched with a baby in the Ukraine and are starting from scratch with SOOO much to do- so I definitely understand the madness in your head right now :)

  • How fun! Updating a homestudy doesn't take nearly as long as the initial homestudy. Don't fret! :)

  • Yea!!!  Freak out and enjoy it :)

From a practical standpoint-  will you be traveling to meet your little one?  How's the nursery?  Car seat?

  • We have everything set up in terms of a nursery. We are traveling to Utah to bring home our baby. I can't believe how fast this all is happening.

  • So exciting!!!  Bring on Utah!

Do you think you'll be in the delivery?  Will you go early to Utah and wait?

If you are a planner like I am.... start researching flights and hotel options.  I love the idea of staying in a rental so we would have laundry and a kitchen during ICPC.  VRBO.com has great options.  Also, keep in mind that there's really no reason for you to stay right where the hospital is located for ICPC if there are better options for housing in metropolitan ares.

You can also start your "what to pack" list!  Have you picked out a pediatrician?

I found doing constructive things helped me feel like I was moving forward.  If I did nothing, I felt like time was dragging.

  • I know we will be at the hospital for delivery, but I don't know if we'll be able to be in the room. D hasn't decided on that yet.

In terms of when we're going to fly out there, I am going to wait until we talk to our worker to see what she thinks. Then we'll plan. I have a pediatrician picked out, but I need to call to see if she is still accepting new patients.

I did hear back from the agency that will be updating our homestudy so I'm hoping to get the 2 visits scheduled for this week.

  • Thank Ladies, I'm a little less worried now, our caseworker has assured us that she will get our homestudy business done within 2 weeks. So everything will be good to go.

I just know this is our son, and this is exactly where we're suppose to be. This road has been difficult, but I know it'll be worth it when we have him in our arms.
